The Commodores' 2026 season has come to an end at the hands of the Braves after they completed a sweep of the divisional series on Wednesday night, 10-2 being the final.
It was the Bravos' third look at Colby Putnam (Gardner-Webb) on the mound, and Luke Costello (South Carolina) was the first to get to him with a solo homer in the top of the second. After a walk, a single and a passed ball, Brice Estep (South Carolina) doubled the early Bourne lead with a sacrifice fly.
Falmouth punched back immediately behind an RBI single from Dallas Brooks (UCF), but the 'Dores' first run was erased by perfectly executed double steal by Matt Bolton (Binghamton) and Rustan Rigdon (Vanderbilt) in the top of the third. Bourne tacked on another two in the next inning, as Ryker Waite (Vanderbilt) doubled home Estep and scampered home after a throwing error on an attempted steal opened his window of opportunity to score.
Brooks brought home the only other Commodore run with a groundout in the bottom of the fourth. At the time, it seemed like it brought Falmouth a glimmer of hope. Justin Osterhouse (Alabama) dashed the rest of it with a three-run homer that proved to be the death blow to the 'Dores postseason run.
It was an up-and-down, roller-coaster ride for the Commodores in 2026. Through the first four games, they were off to one of their best starts in the past decade. In a blink of an eye, they found themselves nearly out of postseason contention. Then, in the middle of a downpour, they found life and went on a magical run that hadn't been seen in Falmouth in three years.
Although it didn't end the way anyone would've wanted, it was a ride well worth taking.
