HYANNIS, Mass., August 5, 2026 - The Cape Cod Baseball League has announced its annual season award winners on Wednesday, headlined by the Harwich Mariners’ Tyler Smolinski earning the 2026 Pat Sorenti Award presented by the 99 Restaurant & Pub, given each year to the Cape League’s Most Valuable Player.
Smolinski, a shortstop from Kansas State, earns the league’s highest honor after finishing among the league leaders in almost every major offensive category, emerging as one of the most complete players this season. The offensive standout finished second in runs scored (27) and hits (42), while ranking third in OPS (.935), home runs (6), and doubles (9), stuffing the stat sheet across the board. He also stole 10 bases and recorded a .313 average across 37 games, helping lead Harwich to a postseason berth. Smolinski is the first Harwich player to earn the honor since Ernie Clement in 2016.

Scott Pickler received the 2026 Mike Curran Award for Manager of the Year after leading the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox to a league-best 28-11-1 record, where they won the East Division and the President’s Cup title. This is Pickler’s fifth time winning the award, after earning the highest honor for Cape League coaches in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2018.
BFC Whitehouse Outstanding Pitcher Award goes to the Chatham Anglers’ Angel Cervantes. The University of California, Los Angeles right-hander has earned the top honor for pitchers after dominating the mound all season, leading the league with a 1.05 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in seven games for the Anglers. He held opposing batters to a .170 batting average.
Brewster Whitecaps’ catcher Jacob Lee won the Robert McNeese Outstanding Pro Prospect Award. The Virginia Commonwealth slugger proved he has the skills to go professional after an outstanding season with the Whitecaps, batting.301 with seven home runs, 24 RBI and a .940 OPS across 28 games. The Robert McNeese Award is selected by professional scouts who have covered the Cape League all season.
No one was more consistent at home plate than the Thurman Munson Batting Champion Award winner Andrew Costello of the Bourne Braves. Costello, from the University of South Carolina, earns the title after batting .361 this season, highest overall among league players.
Hyannis Harbor Hawks’ Truitt Web was named the Russ Ford Outstanding Relief Pitcher Award winner after putting up consistent numbers out of the bullpen all season. The Southeastern Louisiana University right-hander takes home the award after posting a 2.55 ERA and 0.68 WHIP.
The John J. Claffey Outstanding New England Player Award goes to Harwich’s Colin Larson. A native of Easthampton, Mass., and a standout at Boston College, Larson has represented New England well this summer. The Mariners’ outfielder batted .264, scored 24 runs and had a .400 OBP across 33 games.
Nobody represented excellence both on and off the field like the Brewster Whitecaps’ Dane Harvey, the recipient of the Manny Robello 10th Player Award. Harvey, an Ohio State University first baseman, receives the honor after displaying exemplary citizenship throughout the season. He batted .229 with 19 RBI in 27 appearances for the Whitecaps.
Chatham Anglers’ Rob Rispoli embodied what competition means in the Cape League this summer, earning him the Daniel J. Silva Sportsmanship Award. The University of Connecticut shortstop was selected by umpires as someone who exemplified sportsmanship in times of success and adversity. He appeared in 25 games for the Anglers.
The Harwich Mariners earned the Paul Galop Commissioner’s Cup, awarded annually to the team that demonstrates the highest level of integrity and professionalism on and off the field. Throughout the season, the Mariners have exemplified the Cape League’s commitment to excellence and sportsmanship through not just their performance on the field, but their dedication to the community as well.
The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox have won the President’s Cup, awarded each season to the team that earns the most points at the end of the regular season. The Red Sox finished with a league-best 28-11-1 record and a total of 57 points, making them the 2026 regular season champions. This is their second President’s Cup in three years after previously winning in 2024.
Matt Karas of the Bourne Braves has won the John Wylde General Manager of the Year Award. Along with leading the Braves organization, Karas co-developed the Cape Cod Baseball League’s new roster management system, an initiative that improved operations league-wide. The John Wylde Award recognizes a general manager who exhibits passion and dedication to the success of the Cape Cod Baseball League, while leading their team by example.
