HYANNIS, Mass. (October 3, 2026) — Tickets are now available for the Cape Cod Baseball League’s 2026 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Wequassett Resort & Golf Club in Harwich, Mass. Fans and supporters are invited to secure their seats to celebrate the newest class of Cape League legends.
The 2026 Hall of Fame class features five standout figures from the league's history: two-time All-Star Seth Etherton (Chatham, 1995, 1996), Benjamin F.C. Whitehouse Outstanding Pitcher Award winner Matt Goyen (Brewster, 2004), 2008 Robert A. McNeece Outstanding Pro Prospect Award winner Grant Green (Yarmouth-Dennis, 2007; Chatham, 2008), 1996 Pat Sorenti Most Valuable Player Award winner Kevin Nicholson (Wareham, 1996), and long-time league volunteer and executive John Garner.
In addition, the ceremony will honor Jack Martin, a longtime member and former general manager of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. In recognition of its steadfast support of the Cape League, the Wequassett Resort & Golf Club will receive the Peter Gammons Award. Former Wareham Gatemen president Glen Hannington will also be recognized as the Executive of the Year for the 2025 season.
CLASS OF 2026 INDUCTEES
Seth Etherton (Chatham '95, '96): The right-hander out of the University of Southern California was an All-Star pitcher and among the league leaders in ERA over two seasons on the Cape. In 1995, Etherton posted a 4-2 record with a 1.29 ERA over 49 innings, striking out 65 batters at an 11.9 K/9 rate. In 1996, he earned All-League honors with another 4-2 record, a 1.98 ERA, and 68 strikeouts over 50 innings (12.2 K/9)—highlighted by a staggering 29-strikeout performance over two consecutive starts. A first-team College All-American who helped USC win the 1998 College World Series, Etherton was drafted in the first round of the 1998 MLB Draft by the Anaheim Angels. He went 5-1 in 11 starts for the Angels in 2000 and later pitched for the Reds, Athletics, and Royals before finishing his playing career in the Dodgers system in 2010. He has served as pitching coach at both USC and the University of San Francisco, and in 2025 was named coach for the USA Baseball U-18 national developmental program.
Matt Goyen (Brewster '04): A hard-throwing southpaw from Georgia College, Goyen was named a Division II All-American in 2005 following an elite 2004 summer where he won the Benjamin F.C. Whitehouse Outstanding Pitcher Award. Hurling for the Whitecaps, he led the league in strikeouts (80) and ranked third in innings pitched (57), posting a 12.6 K/9 rate. Overall, he finished 5-2 with a 1.25 ERA, earning All-Star and All-League selections. Selected 96th overall in the third round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Florida Marlins, Goyen pitched in the New York-Penn, South Atlantic, and Florida State leagues through 2007.
Grant Green (Yarmouth-Dennis '07, Chatham '08): The USC shortstop excelled across two summers with two different Cape League franchises. In 2007, he hit .291 with four home runs for the champion Y-D Red Sox. Returning in 2008 with the Chatham A's, Green won the Robert A. McNeece Award as Outstanding Pro Prospect after batting .348 with 12 doubles, six home runs, and 21 RBI. He also earned All-Star Game MVP honors after launching a two-run homer to lead the East to victory, and was named All-League shortstop. Drafted 13th overall by the Oakland Athletics in 2009, Green played five seasons in Major League Baseball, primarily with Oakland and the Los Angeles Angels, before closing out his career in the Mexican League in 2018.
Kevin Nicholson (Wareham '96): A switch-hitting shortstop from Stetson College, Nicholson put together a dominant offensive season with the 1996 Gatemen. His league-leading 18 doubles are tied for second all-time in Cape League history, while he also led the league in total bases (76) and extra-base hits (22), finished second in slugging percentage (.510), and third in hits (47). His .315 average, three home runs, and 23 RBI earned him the Pat Sorenti MVP Award, West Division All-Star Game MVP honors, and an All-League selection. Selected 27th overall in the first round of the 1997 MLB Draft by San Diego, Nicholson reached the majors with the Padres in 2000. The British Columbia native was also a member of the Canadian National team from 2001 to 2007, helping Team Canada to a fourth-place finish in 2006.
John Garner (CCBL Executive/Volunteer): A staple of the Cape League for more than 25 years, Garner was named CCBL Executive of the Year in 2014 for his work as Director of Public Relations & Broadcasting. Serving as the league's first broadcast director (2000–2023) and PR director (2002–2015, 2017), he significantly elevated the league's media presence, launching reports on 99.9 WQRC and 95.1 WXTK, and providing color commentary on 96.3 WEEI and WBZ.com. Garner has chaired or co-chaired the Cape Cod Baseball Hall of Fame, Broadcast, and PR/Marketing committees. A graduate of Plymouth State College—where he played basketball, served on the student senate, and wrote for the student newspaper—Garner previously spent 13 years as Assistant Commissioner for the ECAC.
