On Sunday, June 28th, Commodores players took part in the Cops & Cars show for Tommy’s Place, which brought the community together for a good cause – to help support Tommy’s Place.

Tommy’s Place offers year-round vacation homes on Cape Cod for kids who are fighting cancer. Tommy’s Place operates two homes, with one in Falmouth and one in Centerville.

I had the opportunity to speak to Kayla Oliver, one of the people behind this event. “Everything we have at the Tommy’s Place homes has been donated; we are not paying for any of this. Every dime made goes toward Tommy’s Place.” The support from local businesses, volunteers, and the community allows the event to run.

The Cops and Cars event featured a number of vintage and cool cars, as well as cop cars, fire trucks, and first responder vehicles. Throughout the afternoon, families and others had the opportunity to take a look at these cars. Kids had the opportunity to climb onto emergency vehicles, meet local first responders, and get their face painted, all while supporting a great cause.

At the Commodores booth, the players spent the time interacting with fans. Young baseball fans and families stopped by to meet and chat with members of the team, collect autographs, and get information about the Commodores season. Also at the booth was the dunk tank, where those interested paid five dollars to get the chance to dunk a police officer.

Community is a crucial part of the Falmouth Commodores’ identity as a team that extends well beyond Guv Fuller Field. Whether it’s meeting fans or making appearances at local events, it’s something that they love to do. These opportunities allow the team to give back to the community that supports them all season.

As Pierson Riebock puts it, “It’s super cool, because the community is so big here. A lot of people come to our games, and this is a great way to come back and be able to give back to the community.”

Events like these help strengthen the connection between players and fans. For many players, giving back is just as important as winning games.
