The Y-D Red Sox won a slugfest on Tuesday night, beating the Wareham Gatemen by a score of 13-7. The game featured three home runs by the Y-D’s strong offense, including long balls by Brayden Dowd, AJ Soldra, and Cody Miller. Y-D collected 14 hits- a new season high.
Dowd was fantastic throughout the game, reaching base four times. He recorded three hits and scored three runs. After a slow start to the summer, Dowd has raised his average to .269. He walked more than he struck out in 2025, proving that he can do what it takes to reach base. That’s exactly what you want in a leadoff hitter, especially one with the excellent speed Dowd consistently showcases.
Tuesday night marked his second multi-hit game of the year, a sign that he’s starting to right the ship offensively. In his sophomore year at the University of Southern California, Dowd posted a .324 average with a .970 OPS.
He started the game with a bang, launching the first pitch he saw 370 feet to left-center field. Dowd’s first home run of the season helped begin what ended up being an offensive explosion for Y-D.
“We always talk about being ready on the first pitch, and our game plan against their starter was to get the fastball where you like it and put a good swing on it,” Dowd said after the game on Tuesday. “I was planning to be ready for the first pitch of the game. I got the pitch I liked, took advantage of it, and put a good swing on it.”
Dowd hit singles in the third and sixth innings, coming around to tie the game in the sixth on a groundout by Alex Hernandez. The center fielder was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning, soon scoring another insurance run for Y-D.
The incredible offensive results during Y-D’s five-game winning streak haven’t been surprising, but instead continue to prove that the team is built for winning.
“You saw today, and you’re seeing it in the past couple of games, we can win in any way possible. We can win a game 3-2, 2-1, those low-scoring games where pitchers dominate. We can also win a game by hitting a ton and scoring a bunch of runs and winning the shootout,” Dowd said. “Today, I think this was kind of a battle test for us. It was very back and forth, and we just continued to fight back. We never laid down and we just continued to fight. We put up good at-bats, and then our pitchers in the later innings shut it down. I think this team’s just proving that we can win in all facets of the game.”
Y-D will look to extend their winning streak on Wednesday night against Harwich, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
