The Gatemen have won two of their last three games, and now they can take down a red-hot Firebirds squad for the first time in 2026.

Wareham’s strong start in Falmouth couldn’t be completed until Monday after lightning and thunderstorms in the area forced a continuation game on a league-wide off-day. The Gatemen’s 3-0 advantage proved to be the difference with a defensive conclusion to their third matchup of the summer with the Commodores.

Orleans has beaten Wareham twice this summer一once at Spillane and another at Eldredge一and now has turned a corner with a two-game win streak after dropping its three previous matchups.

After the Gatemen’s first road win of the summer, can they sustain their winning record at home in this cross-division showdown?

Starting Pitchers: Echols vs. Brissey

Orleans: Jake Echols (Grand Canyon) is a strikeout machine as one of 11 Firebirds arms with double-digit strikeouts on the summer: his 14 K’s tie him at sixth on Orleans’ staff. Echols’ most recent outing, a blown save against Bourne, wasn’t his best stuff but he still managed to gain five fans. This will be his first start of the summer after seven appearances and 11 total innings out of the bullpen.

Wareham: Mark Brissey (Arkansas) has fluctuated as a relief pitcher and opener, but Smyth gives him the ball for his second start of 2026 after not allowing a single hit against the Anglers last Thursday. He also notched his season-high strikeout total (6) and is now up to 16 on the summer, tied for sixth-most on Wareham. Brissey makes his first appearance since being named one of the Gatemen’s for CCBL All-Stars.

Players To Watch

Firebirds: Bub Terrell (Auburn) has six hits in Orleans’ last three games and is on a six-game hit streak. He sits in the upper echelon of nearly every offense stat for the Firebirds and leads them with a .898 OPS that ranks fourth in the entire Cape League. Terrell’s star bat played a huge role in recent wins over Yarmouth-Dennis and Chatham, two of the top teams in the East Division.

Gatemen: Although Dylan Dubovik (Miami) was one of just four Wareham batters with a hit against Falmouth, his swing was the eventual difference: a two-run homer. Dubovik became the sixth Gatemen to record a long ball and now has the third-most hits on the summer. He is on a three-game hit streak and looks for his first hit against the Firebirds this summer.

First pitch at Spillane Field is set for 6:00 p.m. Fans can attend in Wareham at no cost, or watch the action from anywhere on Cape League TV.
