In their final game before the All-Star break, the Bourne Braves and Wareham Gatemen will face off on Friday night at Doran Park. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET. Both the Bravos and Gatemen are coming off losses on Thursday night that snapped their three-game win streaks.
Probables
Bourne - RHP Noah Scott (Oregon State): 12.2 IP, 9.24 ERA
Wareham - RHP Jordan Stephens (South Carolina): 10.2 IP, 0.84 ERA
Last Time Out - Bourne
The Braves suffered a late-inning heartbreak against Chatham on Thursday night. Heading into the top of the eighth down 3-2, a double from Burke-Lee Maebus drove in a run and tied the game at three. Though it appeared the Braves had momentum, the game was still tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Anglers’ third baseman launched a solo home run over the right-field fence to walk off the Bravos.
Last Time Out - Wareham
Despite entering Thursday night on a three-game win streak and fresh off a shutout victory over the Y-D Red Sox, Wareham couldn’t handle the Cotuit Kettleers. Cotuit got out to a 6-1 lead through the first seven innings. The Gatemen showed fight in the eighth with a three-run inning that brought them within two runs of the Kettleers, but Cotuit added two more runs in the ninth to secure an 8-4 victory.
Previous Matchup
The Braves lead their season series with the Gatemen 2-1. After Wareham took care of business with a 7-5 win in their first faceoff, the Braves won the next two matchups. If Bourne wins tonight, they will clinch the season series.
Player to Watch - Bourne
Luke Costello (South Carolina) is a candidate to catch fire for the Braves’ offense. After taking some time off last week for the MLB Draft, Costello has only one hit in the three games since he returned. Before the break, Costello was one of Bourne’s biggest forces when it came to driving in runs. The Braves’ utilityman currently has the third-most RBI (16) in the CCBL this season and leads the league in doubles with 10.
Player to Watch - Wareham
RJ Hamilton (Duke) has been one of Wareham’s most consistent players this summer. The righty batter leads the Gatemen with 19 hits and 16 runs scored this season. Hamilton has been able to provide run support for Wareham thanks to his ability as a base stealer. In 22 games this season, he has stolen a team-leading 10 bases.
