The fourth edition of the Cape League Power Rankings reveals a season finally taking shape. These rankings weigh recent performance, overall consistency and momentum as teams enter the most pivotal stretch of the summer. As the regular season moves to its final weeks, every game carries greater significance in the race for playoff positioning.

  1. Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (20-5-1) Previously: 1

The Red Sox retain their season-long pole position in the rankings. Their +80 run differential remains the best in the Cape League by a wide margin, and manager Scott Pickler has guided that dominance throughout the summer. Y-D owns the league's best team ERA at 2.36, led by Peyton Rodgers, Andrew Wright and Danny Nelson, all of whom have posted sub-1.00 ERAs. Thirteen of the Red Sox's 14 most-used pitchers have ERAs below 3.00, giving the club one of the deepest pitching staffs on the Cape. The lineup has been nearly as dominant. Tommy Goodin leads the team with 18 RBIs, while Mateo Serna and Dante Vachini are tied for the team lead with three home runs. With the season now past its midpoint, the Red Sox look to finish the same way they started, on top.

  1. Brewster Whitecaps (17-7-2) Previously 2

A target has been placed on the Red Sox, and Brewster has taken on the challenge. Jamie Shevchik’s Whitecaps are now just five points behind Y-D, having lost only two of their last 15 games. Home Run Contest participant Jacob Lee is tied for the league lead with five home runs. Jamie Laskofski’s .326 batting average and .885 OPS are both among the best on the Cape, while shortstop Holden Pantier’s Player of the Week honors are another indication of just how hot the bats have been in Brewster. Payton Manca remains the star of the show with a 0.93 ERA through five starts. The Whitecaps are only getting stronger. They have now distanced themselves from the bottom of the division and are fully in the hunt for Y-D.

  1. Bourne Braves (13-10-3) Previously 4

Scott Landers’ Braves are finally beginning to build momentum in the West. The Braves have won three straight and seven of their last 10 games. Bourne is still last on the Cape with just eight home runs, but has relied on solid pitching and timely hitting to score runs. That offense has been boosted by brothers Andrew and Luke Costello, who have combined for 27 RBIs and have been a huge part of Bourne’s success at the plate. On the mound, Will Whelan owns a 0.50 ERA through four starts, while reliever Jackson Kircher earned Player of the Week honors after tossing 12.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Bourne has the talent and the winning DNA to succeed, and it looks poised to make a run at the top of the division.

  1. Harwich Mariners (16-10) Previously 3

The Mariners are once again victims of a hyper-competitive division. Despite being third in the East, Harwich leads the league in doubles, steals, hits and OPS. Ty Smolinski and Colin Larson are hitting .316 and .304, respectively. Smolinski has hit five home runs and the All-Star duo are just two of five Mariners selected. Harwich’s pitching has slipped from its perch, but 23 innings from starter Riley Goodman have kept them moving. Steve Englert has built a scoring ball club but they will have to piece together some competitive starts to keep up with Brewster and Y-D.

  1. Hyannis Harbor Hawks (12-14) Previously 6

Although Hyannis’ win total and underlying numbers don’t jump off the page, Mitch Karraker’s Harbor Hawks are the most improved team on the Cape. Karraker’s retooled lineup turned a page in July. Their 20 home runs, led by three each from Jon Embury, JP Head and Caden Miller, lead the Cape. Charlie Bates has been a leader at shortstop and has proven to be an effective bat to kickstart the offense. On the mound, Brady St. Pierre has been an effective starter through six appearances with a 1.02 ERA. Hyannis is on a two-game winning streak, and if the Harbor Hawks continue to get quality high-leverage innings from their improving pitching staff, expect them to make a late sprint for Bourne down the stretch.
