Coming off an exciting 8-1 victory that secured Field Manager Scott Lander’s 100th career regular season win, the Bourne Braves are back in action on Thursday night at Chatham. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The Anglers have faltered over the past week and come into the game on a five-game losing streak.
Probables
Bourne - RHP Brandon Shannon (Louisville): 13.1 IP, 6.08 ERA
Chatham - RHP Terry Hayes Jr. (Ole Miss): 6.1 IP, 4.26 ERA
Last Time Out - Bourne
Entering the game with only six home runs on the season, the Bravos finally found some power in their bats against the Commodores. Bourne had its first multi-home run game of the season, with Eliot Medlock (Quinnipiac) and Andrew Costello (South Carolina) each delivering a long ball. In total, the Braves had five extra-base hits in the game, four of which came in their five-run seventh inning. Bourne’s bullpen delivered as well, pitching its sixth scoreless game of July and dropping its ERA to 1.79.
Last Time Out - Chatham
The Anglers continued their freefall on Wednesday, losing to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks on the road. Chatham was quick out of the gate, with Naulivou Lauaki Jr. (Oregon) blasting a two-run home run in the first inning. However, those were the only two runs the Anglers would score. Chatham was able to maintain a 2-1 lead all the way until the bottom of the eighth, when the Harbor Hawks rallied for five runs. The Anglers didn’t have an answer in the top of the ninth, and lost 6-2.
Previous Matchup
The Braves and Anglers have faced off three times so far this season. Bourne has yet to lose to Chatham, having recorded two wins and one tie. In their most recent matchup, the Braves recorded a six-run eighth inning to propel them to a 9-2 victory.
Player to Watch - Bourne
Eliot Medlock (Quinnipiac) had a breakout performance in his second start of the season on Wednesday. Medlock recorded his first career Cape League hit, a two-run home run, in the second inning against Falmouth. He then added a single in the fourth to help Bourne rally for another run. With the Braves searching for more consistency from their infield, don’t be surprised if Medlock earned himself a few starts in the next couple games.
Player to Watch - Chatham
Anglers’ leadoff hitter Rob Rispoli (UConn) has been one of the most consistent members of Chatham’s offense this season. The Anglers’ infielder has reached base in nearly half his at-bats this season, boasting a .465 on-base percentage. Rispoli also leads Chatham with an .826 OPS.
