Day one of the MLB draft has been completed. Two former Commodores heard their names called; Zion Rose (Louisville) and Deven Sheerin (LSU).

Zion Rose (Louisville) - 6th Overall, OF, KC Royals.

Zion Rose played for the Commodores in 2024. He played in 19 games, with 17 at bats. He had an average of .295.

This year at Louisville, Rose’s .417 average with 20 extra base hits and 47 RBIs landed him on the All-ACC First Team and a consensus All-American selection.

At Louisville, Rose collected a number of honors, including the 2025 USA Collegiate National Team, the 2025 NCAA Elite 90 Award Winner, the 2025 All-ACC First Team, the 2024 All-ACC Freshman Team. He was on the USA collegiate nation team in 2024.

Deven Sheerin (LSU) - 128th overall, RHP, Philadelphia Phillies

Sheerin gets drafted to his hometown team. He played for the Commodores in 2025, pitching 12 innings across eight appearances and recording 12 strikeouts.

Sheerin was widely regarded as one of the best relief pitchers in the 2026 draft class, posting the 8th best strikeout percentage amongst SEC pitchers. During his junior season with LSU, he made 20 appearances on the mound with 37 innings pitched and recorded 58 strikeouts behind a blistering 96.5 mph fastball.
