On Monday, June 16, the Falmouth Commodores presented five local high school graduates with scholarship awards. The Chuck Sturtevant Outstanding Service Award and four George Creighton awards were given by Commodores volunteer and scholarship coordinator, Dick Wenderoth, during a pregame ceremony in which they also threw out the ceremonial first pitch and said play ball.
The recipient of the Chuck Sturtevant outstanding service award is Chase Briggs. Chase is a graduate of Falmouth High School and was a bat kid for four seasons with the Commodores. Chase will be attending Quinnipiac University majoring in sports management.
The George Creighton Award scholarship recipients are:
- Addyson Rebello, a graduate of Mashpee High School who plans to attend the Mass Maritime Academy studying facility engineering and energy systems.
- Jacqueline Young, a graduate of Falmouth High School who plans to attend Boston College’s Connell School of Nursing.
- Lorenzo Silva Ferreira, a graduate of Falmouth High School who plans to attend UMass-Lowell studying nutritional science.
- Brendan Keating, a graduate of Falmouth High School who plans to attend UMass-Amherst to study engineering.
To qualify for the Chuck Sturtevant Outstanding Service Award, the student must have been involved with the Commodores as a bat kid, long-term host family member, intern, or other volunteer. To qualify for the George Creighton Award, students must live in either Falmouth or Mashpee, and are presented in recognition of student athletes, academic achievement, and volunteerism.
