HYANNIS, Mass. – The Falmouth Commodores have been troubled with winning struggles at opponent home diamonds with only three away wins on the season.
The Harbor Hawks dominated the Commodores when at McKeon Park. Falmouth lost the series 3-2 after a squandering 5-2 loss on Tuesday to Hyannis.
It was a defensive standoff until the bottom of the fifth when the Harbor Hawks struck first with a single from Jaxson West (Florida State) to bring Carson Boles (Lincoln Memorial) home. A two-RBI single from Eric Snow (Auburn) and a sac fly from Mason White (Arizona) furthered Hyannis to a 4-0 lead.
Zion Rose (Louisville) and Karson Bowen (TCU) made their way to scoring position with back-to-back singles and a wild pitch. A groundout from Robby Bolin (Nebraska) punched in the RBI from Rose to get the Commodores on the board 4-1 in the top of the sixth.
The Harbor Hawks' offensive momentum bled into the bottom of the sixth. Blake Cavill (Troy) snagged an RBI double to regain Hyannis’s four-run lead, 5-1.
The game calmed during the seventh and eighth innings. The Commodores did secure a double from Gavin Turley (Oregon State) in the bottom of the seventh, but they struggled to bring any runners home.
A late rally was sparked for Falmouth by Isaiah Barkett (Stetson) with a lead-off single in the top of the ninth. Turley put up his second double of the night to secure an RBI to sit at 5-2.
Trent Caraway (Oregon State) was next to the dish. He flew out into a double play to give the Harbor Hawks the last two outs they were looking for to force the Commodores to fall 5-2.
The Commodores (14-20) have an off day on Wednesday but will return to play on Thursday at Doran Park to take on the Bourne Braves (16-16) with the first pitch set for 6 p.m.
Lefty Parker Coil (Arkansas) is the projected starting pitcher for Falmouth. He has a 4.81 ERA and has appeared in 24.1 innings this summer. Coil is 0-3 and his last start was against the Harwich Mariners on July 24, where the Commodores went on to win 8-1.
