At Tuesday, June 16th’s Falmouth Commodores game against the Orleans Firebirds, the organization Katie’s Cure was recognized at the game, with Katie’s daughter throwing out the first pitch.
Katie, a Falmouth local, has been bravely battling ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) since the age of 34, only three months after the birth of her daughter. To fight this disease, Katie, her husband, and her daughter need support for the high costs of in-home medical and personal care, renovations for accessibility and equipment needed in their home, as well as medical expenses that are not covered by insurance.

All proceeds collected from the Commodores' June 16th 50/50 raffle were donated to Katie and Katie’s Cure to help in her battle with ALS.
Katie is an inspiration to so many people. She is a proud product of the Cape. She was a Nurse Practitioner, helping others in need in emergency departments, children’s hospitals, and in cancer center ICU units. Katie is also a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend to many. To read more on Katie and Katie’s Cure, please consider checking on her website here.
What is ALS?
ALS is a nervous system disease that affects the spinal cord and the nerve cells in the brain. Eventually, the disease leads to muscle weakness and other symptoms that worsen over time.
While there is no known cure for ALS, there has been an increase in research and revelations in the underlying mechanisms and possible early-stage therapies. There are around 60 documented cases of spontaneous ALS reversals, several of which were taking supplements or alternative treatments not covered by insurance.
Katie’s Cure believes that if there was a time to believe ALS is beatable, it is now.
