Falmouth (15-16-2) rode the momentum of three straight wins into McKeon Park in a pivotal matchup against second-place Hyannis (15-16). A win, and the ‘Dores would raise its point total to 32 and set themselves up well to surpass the Harbor Hawks by season’s end.

They’d do more than rise to the occasion. They dominated it with a season-high 21 hits.

It truly felt like Christmas in July for the ‘Dores – the theme of Friday’s marquee in Hyannis.

The floodgates opened in the top of the second with a two-run single off the bat of Dallas Brooks (UCF), who’d turn in the best performance of his season by night’s end: a trio of hits and a quartet of RBIs – a team high.

Hitting coach Beau McMillan has harped on the importance of simplicity in the box, and Brooks seemed to internalize it on Friday, zoning in on his timing. “I was just trying to see the ball deep, see the ball up,” he said. “I felt like their pitchers couldn't really beat me.”

Brooks’ single was the start of a three-run rally that inning, which Tommy Harrison (Miami (OH)) would follow with a solo homer in Falmouth’s next opportunity at the dish.

Harrison accredited his first bomb of the Cape League season to his teammates, who put together quality at-bats before him and allowed him to see Kevin Robinson’s (Northwestern State) full arsenal. “It's a little bit easier going up to the plate when you see the guys in front of you hitting the ball and putting together good at-bats,” he said.

Hyannis found a way to bite back, manufacturing four runs in the third to cut the deficit to one. Both teams went back-and-forth for the next four innings: the ‘Dores would pull away, but the Harbor Hawks would storm right back. It remained a one-run game heading into the eighth, when Jeff Lougee (Northwestern) roped a two-out single that changed everything.

Lougee had as close as one could get to a perfect day against his former team, going 4-for-4 while reaching base in all six plate appearances and stealing a bag. His homecoming to McKeon Park – the ballpark that he made his home last summer – was nothing short of a storybook.

“I look up in the stands and kids I worked at the clinics with [were there], my host's family from last year, all there, it's amazing to put on a performance like I did today,” Lougee said in retrospect.

Brooks and Drew Terpins (Mount Mercy) tacked on run-scoring hits while Matthew Farner (Georgia) executed a perfect double-steal with Lougee in the four-run surge that proved too much for Hyannis to climb back from. Two more runs in the ninth, RBIs from Harrison and Lougee, put the cherry on top of the 15-7 win that showed an unrelenting aggressiveness from the Commodores at the dish.

“We had probably a hit in just about every inning today, so I think we just collectively as a group, we're dogs,” Harrison said about the starting lineup on Friday. “Every single guy in the lineup seems to really try and help the team.”

The collective effort from the ‘Dores has extended their winning streak to four games as the playoff push intensifies. Impeccable timing, according to Brooks.

“We're getting hot at the right time. The regular season's coming to an end and to get hot right now and build some momentum going into the playoffs is going to be great.”

Falmouth looks to continue to roll against Wareham on Saturday, July 25. First pitch from Clen Spillane Field is set for 6:05 p.m.
