Y-D brought the offensive heat to Red Wilson Field Thursday in a 12-5 scrimmage win over the Harwich Mariners. It was a total team effort, with multiple players in the lineup raking in big hits and making solid plays.

Drew Burress of Georgia Tech led Y-D’s offensive with three doubles and a grand slam. Elon University’s Ryan Sprock and Kennesaw State’s Jackson Chirello each recorded two-run singles and LSU’s Jake Brown secured an RBI double.

The team’s strength was not limited to the batter’s box. The top of each inning introduced a new pitcher to the mound for Y-D’s defense, and many of them gave up no runs in the innings they pitched.

Kennesaw State right-handed pitcher Nolan Sliver set the tone for the scrimmage and led Y-D’s defense to a 1-2-3 inning in the first. In the second inning, right-handed pitcher Caleb Anderson of Wichita State University struck out three batters, nearly achieving an immaculate inning. Right-handed pitcher Bryan Peck of Westmont College also notched a pair of strikeouts in the fifth.

To add to Y-D’s stellar defense, University of Michigan’s Jonathan Kim made a seamless diving catch in center field. Sprock also saw some action at third base, with a quick line drive catch in the fifth inning.

Behind the mound, the team played excellent overall in the field. Y-D’s defense came up with a double play in the third inning and held the opposing team to zero runs throughout the first four innings of the scrimmage.

In the end, it was a true team effort that propelled Y-D to a dominant performance in Thursday’s scrimmage. With both powerful hitting and outstanding pitching, the team is set for an exciting home opener on Saturday at 5 p.m. where they will take on the Brewster Whitecaps at Red Wilson Field.
