The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox came back with a solid win over the Cotuit Kettlers on Tuesday night 9-6. The game went back and forth, the lead constantly changing before it was eventually called for darkness with the completion of the eighth inning.

Y-D got on the board first with an RBI single from Oklahoma’s Easton Carmichael, which brought Michigan’s Jonathan Kim home. Kim also had a single and a stolen base in the first inning. Other hits early on from the team came from LSU’s Brady Neal and UCLA’s Phoenix Call, who each drove a single to the outfield.

On the mound, Sean Youngerman of Westmont College made his starting debut. He threw for the first three innings and had five strikeouts. For Cotuit, Anthony Eyanson pitched the first three and had three strikeouts.

Cotuit put the pressure on mid-game with seven players in their lineup recording at least one hit. The Kettlers’ catcher Grant Jay had the biggest hit of the day, cranking a three-run homer in the fourth inning and putting Cotuit ahead for a couple of innings.

The Red Sox then generated a clutch sixth inning, scoring four runs. Jackson Chirello of Kennesaw State came in to pinch hit and slugged a two-run single with two outs and bases loaded to tie the game. Neal quickly scored on a wild pitch to put Y-D ahead by one.

In the seventh, Y-D extended their lead by five with Carmichael scoring off an RBI single from Texas Tech’s Cade McGee. Neal also singled on a ground ball to shortstop, sending Carmichael and McGee across the plate. Then Elon’s Ryan Sprock entered the lineup and brought Georgia Tech’s Drew Burress home with a single to right field.

The Kettlers answered in the eighth with a two-run home run from Brandon Compton. However, it was not enough to put them over. Stanford’s Trevor Moore came in to close on the mound for Y-D in the eighth and notched two strikeouts to seal the deal.

On Thursday, the Red Sox will be back home to face the Falmouth Commodores.
