Nothing beats a day off, and the Gatemen, plus the rest of the Cape Cod Baseball League, needed one. The Gatemen had gone 12 straight days playing baseball, eight being games, and the other four being practices, scrimmages or a workout at Fenway Park.

In that span, the Gatemen went 4-4, after a shaky 0-3 start. They look to get back into the win column Tuesday against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox after losing to the Harwich Mariners on Sunday, 3-2.

The Gatemen defeated the Red Sox in their first meeting at Spillane Field by a score of 3-2, when designated hitter Vance Sheahan (Miami) crushed the Gatemen’s first home run of the summer en route to their first win of the season.

The Red Sox have been hot lately, winning their last four games, highlighted by wins against the then-undefeated Brewster Whitecaps and the Falmouth Commodores. They are looking to even the season series while the Gatemen hope history repeats itself in their first trip to Red Wilson Field, the host of this year’s Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game.

Starting pitchers

The Gatemen will start Logan Baisley (FGCU). Baisley pitched against the Red Sox on June 17, when the Gatemen won their first game of the summer.

In that game, he held them scoreless through three innings, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out one batter. Look for him to pitch for a little longer in Tuesday's outing.

For the Red Sox, Zach Harris (Georgia) will get the starting nod. Harris has appeared in three games this season for the Red Sox, only pitching 3 ⅓ combined innings, allowing only one run and striking out six batters. Tuesday will be his first start this season, so look to see how he responds to a longer outing.

Players to watch

In their second matchup against the Mariners, the Gatemen’s bats were much quieter than in their previous four games. However, Levi Clark (Tennessee) was still able to break through and put the Gatemen on the board with his first home run of the summer. Look for him to continue to make an impact with his power.

Another player to look out for is new arrival Chris McHugh (NC State). McHugh played his first game in a Gatemen uniform Sunday and scored the tying run to make it 2-2. He did not get a hit in the game, but he has great bat-to-ball skills, and it is only a matter of time before he becomes a key part of the Gatemen's lineup.

The Gatemen also activated catcher Hunter Carns (Florida State) on Monday. The Seminole, who was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 20th round of the 2024 MLB Draft, finished his freshman season batting .286 with 38 hits and 15 RBIs. Look for him to immediately make an impact Tuesday.

For the Red Sox, Nolan Traeger (TCU) did well against the Commodores on Sunday, going 2-for-4 while scoring a run. AJ Soldra (Seton Hall) has also been their best hitter, batting .438. He went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and scored a run Sunday. Look for both of them to make an impact in the Red Sox's lineup.

First pitch for Tuesday's game will be at 5 p.m. at Red Wilson Field. You can either attend the game for free or you can tune in to the Gatemen’s Radio Broadcast with Cory Miller and Josh Richardson on the call by clicking HERE.
