Cape Cod Baseball League Franklin Sports Players of the Week (June 14-20)

HYANNIS, Mass. — Brewster Whitecaps outfielder Josiah Ragsdale and Harwich Mariners left-handed pitcher Jake McCoy have been named the Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week, presented by Franklin Sports, for the week of June 14-20, the league announced Sunday.

Ragsdale, a 21-year-old outfielder from Boston College, leads the Cape League in hits (nine), RBI (nine) and stolen bases (eight) through the first week of play. Ragsdale slashed .474/.545/.579/1.124 in six games, helping lead the Whitecaps to a perfect 6-0 record.

In two of these games, Ragsdale tallied at least two hits, two RBI and two stolen bases. On Opening Day, he had the game-winning hit, a two-run single with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth. Ragsdale and the Whitecaps take on the Cotuit Kettleers at 5 p.m. Tuesday at home.

McCoy, a 20-year-old lefty from the University of South Carolina, started two games this week, both Harwich wins. Between the two starts he threw 8 1/3 innings, allowing just five hits. He did not allow an earned run, and he leads the league in strikeouts with 17 — which includes a 10-strikeout performance on Opening Day.

Through the first week of the season, McCoy had a 0.00 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, .177 BAA and 18.36 K/9. The Mariners travel to Chatham to play the Anglers at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
