The Mariners are eight games into the season and hold a 5-3 record. Harwich is currently tied for second in the East Division with the Brewster Whitecaps.

The Mariners are in the top five of the league in every hitting stat. The team is currently third in the league in batting average at .250. The Mariners are currently in the middle of the pack in the pitching categories. The Mariners pitching staff have a 4.26 ERA (fifth in the league).

At the end of each week this season we will highlight three Mariners with great weeks on the field. With such a great start to the season this week was very difficult to narrow it down to three.

Colin Larson (Boston College Outfielder)

Colin Larson this week has been an all around plus to the Mariners team. Larson is currently top 20 in batting average at .292. Larson has also been showcasing his get away speed, stealing seven bases (second in league only behind teammate JP Peltier). He has also hit a pair of doubles (one behind the league leader).

Larson has been phenomenal on defense so far. The Boston College product has already made two insane diving catches in right field. The one Friday night against Orleans made SportsCenter's Top 10 plays!!!

Trey Williford (UNCW LHP)

Trey Williford is only 19 and is already looking like one of the top arms in the Cape League. The left-handed pitcher through 9.1 innings of pitching has landed himself tied for 1st in the league for strikeouts (13). Williford's ERA currently stands at 3.86, with the only runs scored on Opening Day against Y-D. Williford's most impressive outing came against the Orleans Firebirds on Friday night when he pitched a one-hitter in six innings. To be a high strikeout pitcher is great but to be able to do it without giving up runs is special.

Ty Smolinski (Kansas State Infielder)

Ty Smolinski has been nothing but special since arriving in The Cape. Smolinski is currently leading the Mariners with in batting average (.393), RBI (7), and home runs (2). Smolinski is also top five in the league in batting average.

It is not just the bat that is working for Smolinski. Ty has made play after play for the Mariners in the middle infield. Like his teammate Larson, Smolinski was also on SportsCenter after his Opening Day behind-the-back play to Julio Solier for the double play.
