The Yawkey Foundation and Cape Cod Baseball League continue partnership for 2024 season

Yawkey Foundation

The Cape Cod Baseball League is pleased to announce that the Yawkey Foundation is continuing its long-standing partnership with the Cape League with support of the 2024 season.

Tom Yawkey and his wife, Jean Yawkey, were passionate about the game of baseball. Over their seven decades as owners of the Boston Red Sox, the Yawkeys were committed to supporting youth and amateur athletics in the communities that they called home: Boston, Massachusetts, and Georgetown, South Carolina. They recognized the important skills that baseball could bring to players both on and off the field — cooperation, respect, teamwork, friendships and confidence.

Perpetuating Tom and Jean Yawkey’s love for baseball, the Yawkey Foundation has provided grants to the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) over the course of almost 30 years of partnership to improve the game experience for players, fans, and the host communities. These Small Capital Grants enabled CCBL teams across the Cape to upgrade or replace their fields for safer playing, and depending upon the specific team needs, provided the funding for state-of-the-art field lighting, outfield renovations, safety netting to protect spectators and drainage improvements for improved playing surfaces.

In addition to its support of the Cape Cod Baseball League, the Yawkey Foundation has dedicated itself to perpetuating the philanthropic legacy of the Yawkeys, and specifically their passion for baseball, through recent partnerships such as the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum's new exhibit, "The Souls of the Game: Voices of Black Baseball," The Sports Museum’s exhibit highlighting the “1967 Impossible Dream Red Sox,” and support for Greater Boston nonprofit organizations providing access to high-quality athletic and recreation programs.

The Yawkey Foundation is delighted to have participated in the 2024 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game on Saturday, July 27. During the game, Jim Healey, Yawkey Foundation Trustee, and the Cape Cod Baseball League highlighted another group of all-stars — outstanding nonprofit organizations making a difference for individuals, families and communities of Cape Cod. The Yawkey Foundation was honored to have representatives from some of these organizations that have recently received charitable grants totaling more than $250,000 joining us on the field.

On behalf of the Yawkey Foundation and the Cape Cod Baseball League, we once again thank and congratulate our local community all-stars!
