FALMOUTH, Mass. — The crack of the bat and the roar of the engine met this Sunday as the Falmouth Commodores took a swing for the kids at the annual "Cops and Cars/Touch a Truck" event. Held in support of Tommy’s Place, the community gathered for a day of family fun, fantastic vehicles and fundraising.
Tommy's Place, a local charity, operates two vacation homes for kids battling cancer, offering them and their families a much-needed getaway from their medical battles. Located in Falmouth and Centerville, the two homes have in-ground swimming pools, game rooms, movie theaters, home taverns and more. Since opening, Tommy’s Place has hosted over 100 families and plans to welcome 104 more in 2024.
The "Cops and Cars/Touch a Truck" event surely tugged at some heartstrings. Children and families checked out an exciting array of first responder vehicles and classic cars, while food trucks dished out delicious treats. The Commodores were on hand, not only mingling with fans but also running the ever-popular Dunk-A-Cop booth, a huge hit with the crowd.
"Seeing the smiles on these kids' faces, it's incredibly humbling," Falmouth pitcher Matthew Dallas (Tennessee) said. "Tommy’s Place does amazing work, and we’re thrilled to support them in any way we can."
As the DJ spun good tunes, attendees enjoyed face painting, balloon animals and other surprises, like Blades the Bruin showing up to attend. The highlight for many was the ice cream truck, which offered sweet relief from the hot, humid day. Each activity, raffle ticket and tasty treat sold gave funds directly to Tommy’s Place, ensuring many more magical vacations for deserving families.
"Cops and Cars/Touch a Truck" proved once again why Falmouth is a community with a heart of gold. The event ended in hopes of more home runs and heartfelt moments for Tommy’s Place and the families it serves.
