Jeff Trundy and Todd Cunningham Elected to 2024 Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame

WEST YARMOUTH, Mass. — Continuing their unparalleled legacy of excellence, the Falmouth Commodores once again demonstrate greatness both on and off the field. Jeff Trundy, the team's long-time manager, and Todd Cunningham, a former standout player for the Commodores, have been elected to the 2024 class of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) Hall of Fame.

Trundy has been a cornerstone of the CCBL for nearly three decades, starting his 30th year with the organization in 2024 and his 25th as the head coach of the Falmouth Commodores. Trundy has been named CCBL Coach of the Year three times (2004, 2016, 2019) and was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013. In addition to his work with the Commodores, Trundy spends his time as the head baseball coach at the Frederick Gunn School, a prep school in Washington, Conn., and has scouted part-time for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cunningham, a switch-hitting outfielder from Jacksonville State, had an electric season with the Commodores in 2009. Leading all Cape League batters with a .378 average, he won the Thurman Munson Batting Championship Award. Cunningham also led the league in hits (59) and on-base percentage (.458), and ranked second in runs scored (31) and slugging percentage (.458). His performance during his season with the Commodores earned him an All-League selection, highlighted by 12 extra-base hits, 22 RBI, and 19 walks. Following his impressive college career at Jacksonville State, Cunningham was drafted in the second round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves. He made his major league debut in 2013, appearing in 67 MLB games over three seasons with the Braves and the Los Angeles Angels. After his playing career, Cunningham went on to coach for the Kansas City T-Bones.

Chuck Sturtevant, General Manager of the Falmouth Commodores, expressed his admiration for both inductees.

“Todd was a great ball player when you look at his stats, but he was more than that. He was a tremendous asset to the team and community. He always volunteered to do community events. He was loved by his host family as well,” Sturtevant said.

Sturtevant touched on his relationship with Trundy as well.

“What can I say,” Sturtevant said. “I hired him as an assistant in 1997 and made him our head coach in 1999. He is starting his 25th year as the head coach. He is a true gentleman of the game. His top priority is to do whatever is best for the players. That is why he is loved by so many. Over my 38 years, I have hired three coaches, and now all three will be in our hall of fame. I am so happy for both Todd and Jeff."

The CCBL Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held later this year on Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Wequassett Resort in Harwich, celebrating the achievements and contributions of Cunningham, Trundy, and their fellow inductees.
