Harwich’s Kurland and Falmouth’s Murphy Claim Weekly Awards

HYANNIS, Mass., July 19, 2026 - Harwich Mariners’ second baseman Cade Kurland and Falmouth Commodores left-handed pitcher Casen Murphy have earned the Franklin Sports Player of the Week and Baseball Lifestyle 101 Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, for the week of July 12-18, the league announced Sunday.

Kurland, a standout at the University of Florida, put on an offensive show this week on the Cape, batting .421 (8-for-19), with a .500 on-base percentage, a league-best .737 slugging percentage and 1.237 on-base slugging across five games for the Mariners. He recorded three doubles, a home run, three RBI and two stolen bases during the week. Kurland began the stretch with a two-hit game against Yarmouth-Dennis on July 12, where he went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a steal, then added a home run against Orleans on July 15. He capped off the week with another multi-hit night against Falmouth on July 16, where he went 2-for-4 with a double.

Murphy, a left-hander from the University of Louisville, earned the honor after leading the league with a WHIP of 0.45, striking out five with one walk and two hits over 6 and ⅔ scoreless innings for the Commodores. He picked up both a win and a save during the week while holding opponents to just a .100 batting average. Murphy opened the week with four scoreless innings against Hyannis on July 14, allowing no hits, one walk and striking out two. He then completed his campaign with a victory against Cotuit on July 17, closing the game by striking out three to earn the save. Murphy did not allow an earned run the entire week.
