The Harwich Mariners fell by way of mercy rule to the Cotuit Kettleers on Thursday night at Whitehouse Field, 18-4.

After the Mariners walloped Cotuit on Opening Day, the Kettleers came to Whitehouse Field with revenge in mind, and they were more than successful in getting their payback.

Cotuit didn't wait to get the bats rolling, sending all of its 18 runs to the plate in a three-inning stretch between the second and fourth. Brandon Compton was the main beneficiary of the Kettleers' offensive outburst, posting a 3-for-6 day with five RBI, which peaked when he hit a grand slam in an eight-run fourth inning for Cotuit that more or less put the dagger in Harwich's back.

The Mariners were able to tack on some runs in the final inning by way of a Jake Ogden (UNC Greensboro) grand slam. The Harwich third baseman absolutely crushed a hanging breaking ball over the left field fence to scrape off some of the salt on the wound from Cotuit's offensive outburst.

Harwich is back in action Friday night when it takes on Orleans for the first time this season. First pitch at Eldredge Park is slated for 6:30 p.m.
