The Y-D Red Sox defeated the Bourne Braves 8-1 on a windy Sunday evening at Red Wilson Field. Oklahoma’s Easton Carmichael crushed an impressive grand slam beyond right-center field in the sixth to seal the deal for the Red Sox.
Carmichael’s big hit extended Y-D’s lead from three runs to seven and sent UCLA’s Phoenix Call, Georgia Tech’s Drew Burress, LSU’s Jake Brown, as well as himself across the plate. He is now hitting over .400 after Sunday’s game.
Arkansas’ Wehiwa Aloy continued to bring power to the plate, smashing his second home run of the season over the center field fence. His homer put Y-D on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. Aloy also had an RBI in the fifth and sent Burress home to give Y-D the lead for the rest of the game.
Other hits from Y-D came from Brown, Call, and Kennesaw State’s Jackson Chirello, who all hit singles. Chirello, who is now hitting .500, also showed off his speed in the sixth, after hitting another single and sliding into first base to beat out the pitcher.
Bourne put some early pressure on Y-D with a single to left field by Jack Penney, which sent Marek Houston home to tie the game in the third. However, Y-D’s bullpen pitched a solid game and collectively held the Braves to one run.
The Kennesaw State pitchers dominated on the mound for Y-D Sunday. Braden Osbolt started the game and collected three strikeouts. Nolan Sliver kept the energy going in the seventh with two strikeouts in one inning.
Wichita State’s Caleb Anderson and Kent State’s Gavin Jones threw for Y-D in the eighth and ninth. In those two innings, they combined for three strikeouts and closed out the big win for Y-D.
The Red Sox now sit atop the East Division at 6-2. They will face the Brewster Whitecaps (3-5) next on Monday in Brewster at 5 p.m.
