Last Time Out - Bourne
The Braves almost had their third straight walk-off win at home on Sunday, but weren’t able to see it through. Entering the ninth inning down 4-2, Bourne led off with three consecutive base hits to bring in a run. The Braves would load the bases later in the inning, but a ground ball double play off the bat of Andrew Costello (South Carolina) ended the game. Matt Bolton hit two triples in the contest, becoming the first batter to do so in the CCBL since at least 2024.
Last Time Out - Orleans
The Firebirds’ fourth win of the year came in shutout fashion against the Harbor Hawks on Sunday. Orleans got out to an early start in the game, scoring two runs in the first inning. From there, the Firebirds slowly added to their lead with a run in the fourth, two in the sixth, and one final knockout blow in the ninth. The Orleans pitching staff was a big part of the win, with four pitchers working together to keep Hyannis off the scoreboard.
Previous Matchups
The Braves got the best of the Firebirds in the first matchup between the two, winning 8-2 in convincing fashion. Bourne struck an early lead with Andrew Costello’s first home run of the year, and a five-run eighth inning helped them put away the win.
Player to Watch - Bourne
With a two triple performance in Sunday’s loss, Matt Bolton (Binghamton) added to what has been a great debut to the CCBL. Through 11 games this summer, Bolton is batting .378 with an OPS of 1.045. He also now has three triples on the season, the most by a hitter in a CCBL season since Mike Mancini (Orleans) had four in 33 games in 2024.
Player to Watch - Orleans
Chase Frey has made two starts on the mound for the Firebirds this season, and was strong in both. The southpaw from Grand Canyon threw 5.0 innings or more in both starts, giving up one earned run in each game. This past spring with the Antelopes, Frey had a 4.79 over 12 starts.
