We have officially reached the midway point of the 2025 CCBL regular season, with every team having played at least 20 games. The All-Star break is right around the corner and fans are starting to get a gauge on which teams could be championship contenders. With the second half of the regular season set to begin, let’s evaluate where every team stands through the first half of play.

East:
1. Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox
Record: 12-7-2 (26 points)
Ah yes, that’s fun to see! The Y-D Red Sox took control of first place in the East and best record in the CCBL on June 21st and have not looked back since. However, the division race is closer than ever, with Brewster narrowing their margin to just one point. For a more in-depth look on the start to Y-D’s season, check out David Okula’s analysis of the team’s hitters and Jacob Zanolla’s analysis of the team’s pitchers.

2. Brewster Whitecaps
Record: 12-8-1 (25 points)
Brewster started the summer at 6-0 and are only one point out of first place following a recent three-game winning streak. A key reason for the Whitecaps' success has been their ability to win close games. In games decided by two runs or less, Brewster has gone 6-2-1, including a 3-2 win against Y-D on opening day. Offensively, Josiah Ragsdale had been the standout for the team, prior to his departure for the MLB draft. In 16 games before leaving Brewster, Ragsdale hit .373 and stole 15 bases, both still atop the league leaderboard. Ragsdale is hoping to hear his name called during the MLB draft this weekend, while the rest of the Whitecaps will continue to try to re-claim first place in the East.

3. Harwich Mariners
Record: 10-7-3 (23 points)
Led by their fantastic pitching staff, the Harwich Mariners have gotten off to a solid start to 2025, currently just 3 points out of first place. Harwich pitchers have proven to be tough to break in the first half. The team has posted an ERA of 2.74, which is well out in front in first place. They have only issued 63 walks as a staff as well, nearly twenty fewer than the next best team. Jake McCoy led the CCBL in strikeouts with 25, prior to leaving Harwich. Offensively, Dee Kennedy has been the standout for the Mariners. Through 14 games, he’s posted an OPS of .851, while playing really well in the field at third base.

4. Chatham Anglers
Record: 8-10-3 (19 points)
After a slow start to the summer, the Chatham Anglers have found their groove, going 6-5-2 over their last 13 games. The Anglers have made the most of situations with runners on base. The team also leads the CCBL in BABIP at .323, a metric that shows how often a runner reaches base when putting a ball in play. In short, when Chatham hits the ball, they typically hit it hard, and cause damage to their opponents, which has typically been their key to success. Jackson Freeman has been the standout for the team. Having played 20 of the team’s 21 games, Freeman is currently sixth in the league in hits (23) and 13th in batting average (.315) among qualified hitters.

5. Orleans Firebirds
Record: 8-11-2 (18 points)
While the Firebirds are currently last in the East, their season is far from over. The division is incredibly close, with the difference between first and last only being seven points. It’s not impossible that a second-half surge could push the Firebirds all the way from worst to first in the East by the season’s end. Unfortunately for Orleans, their bats have yet to catch that fire as they currently stand last in the CCBL in OPS and strikeouts. On the mound, Ethan Foley and Logan Reddeman have been the standouts for Orleans. Both pitchers are currently posting a sub-2.00 ERA through over 12 innings of work, and the Firebirds will be counting on them to continue pitching well as the summer rolls on.

West:
1. Hyannis Harbor Hawks
Record: 10-8-3 (23 points)
Behind what’s been the best offense through the first half of the CCBL, Hyannis finds themselves atop the West at the midway point of the summer. Their lineup is incredibly potent and offers no breaks in the order from 1-9. So far, the team leads the league in OPS, runs batted in, and batting average. Chris Rembert was leading the CCBL in home runs with three prior to his departure from Hyannis at the end of June. Jaxon Willits joined the team in the second week of the summer and has been a force to be reckoned with. The Oklahoma Sooner is hitting .366 and posting an OPS of 1.022 through 13 games. As long as their bats stay hot, the Hyannis Harbor Hawks are going to be a tough team to face for anyone come playoff time.

2. Falmouth Commodores
Record: 10-10-1 (21 points)
Jarrod Saltalamacchia has to be satisfied with his team’s play through the first half of the summer. After a slow start to 2025, the team has gone 7-4-1 dating back to June 25th. The team is tied with Wareham for most home runs in the CCBL and is ranked fourth in the league in OPS. Marshall standout Maika Niu has been a pivotal reason for their success. A current front-runner to win CCBL Hitter of the Year, Niu currently leads the league in home runs with seven. Not to mention he’s also tied for the league lead in hits with 27 and runs batted in with 18. Arguably no player in the entire league has improved their draft stock this summer more than Niu, who announced he will be transferring to play at Arkansas next season. However, there’s now a chance Niu will have his name called on draft day this weekend.

3. Bourne Braves
Record: 9-10-1 (19 points)
After a tough June, the Bourne Braves have caught fire this month and are 5-2 in July, only four points out of first place in the West. Improvements to their pitching have been the main reason for their recent surge. Over the past week, Bourne ranks second across the league in ERA and third in strikeouts. Matthew Shorey has been a standout on the mound for the Braves. Through five appearances, including two starts, Shorey has produced an ERA of 1.15 across 15.2 innings of work, with hitters batting just .148 against him. With the division race close and Bourne surging, don’t be surprised if the Braves continue to climb up the standings.

4. Cotuit Kettleers
Record: 8-11-2 (18 points)
After finishing June with a record of 3-9-1, Cotuit feared they may be on the outside looking in come playoff time. However, the team’s bats have come alive in July, pushing them into a current playoff position. Over the past 15 days, the Kettleers have produced an OPS of .863, which is nearly 100 points better than the next best team. Reigning CCBL batting champion, Jarren Advincula, has continued to play well in his second season with Cotuit. The California second baseman is tied for the league lead in hits with 27, and ranks third amongst qualified hitters in batting average at .360. If the Kettleers can continue to play at this level, they will be a tough out in the playoffs, despite their slow start to 2025.

5. Wareham Gatemen
Record: 8-13 (16 points)
Like the Orleans Firebirds, the Wareham Gateman may currently sit in last in their division, but are only seven points out of first place. The fact that 8-13 represents the worst record in the CCBL so far, just goes to show how close the talent level is across the entire league. Wareham’s offense has been fantastic, but pitching struggles have resulted in the team’s falling behind. On the season, Wareham is third in the league in OPS and tied with Falmouth for the league lead in home runs. However, they are last in team ERA and opponents’ batting average. Wareham will be looking to see improvements from their pitchers as the Gatemen look to make a second-half push.
