Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox shortstop Wehiwa Aloy and Chatham Anglers left-handed pitcher Micah Ashman have been named the Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week, presented by Del Mar Vacation Rentals, for the week of June 29-July 5, the league announced Monday.

Aloy, a 20-year-old shortstop out of Arkansas, had a massive week for Yarmouth-Dennis, crushing six home runs in its five games. Aloy slashed .409/1.227/1.636 and drove in 11 total runs. On July Fourth, he provided his own fireworks, becoming the 13th player in Cape League history to hit three home runs in a single game.

The last player on the Red Sox to hit three home runs in one game was Joe Olker against the Falmouth Commodores in 1982. Coincidentally, that feat also occurred on America’s Independence Day. Y-D now holds first place in the East Division and will square off with the Braves at Doran Park in Bourne on Monday at 6 p.m.

Ashman, the 6-foot-7 lefty from Utah, took the mound for Chatham in the third inning on July Fourth and delivered a gem. In 5 1/3 innings of relief work, Ashman allowed just two hits and picked up the win in a rivalry game vs. the Orleans Firebirds. During his outing, Ashman struck out five and walked none.

Overall, Ashman’s ERA sits at 1.08 on the season. He’s pitched in three games so far and has a 10.8 K/9 across 8 1/3 innings of work. At 21-years-old and having just completed his junior year, Ashman is eligible for the MLB Draft later this week. His elite fastball command could land him a selection, but until then he’ll suit up for the Anglers, who remain on the road Tuesday against the Wareham Gateman at 6 p.m.
