HYANNIS, Mass. — Wareham Gatemen outfielder Ty Dalley and Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox right-handed pitcher Tyler Pitzer have been named the Franklin Sports Player of the Week and Cape League Pitcher of the Week, for the week of June 21-27, the league announced Sunday.
Dalley, a 21-year-old outfielder from Mississippi State, slashed .400/.455/.550/1.005 during the week, leading the league in hits over that span with eight. Dalley drove in two runs and drew one walk. He was one of seven players this week to record a triple.
The week was highlighted by Dalley’s 4-for-5 performance against Y-D. He concluded the week with 13 total hits on the season, second most in the Cape League. Dalley and Wareham travel to Chatham to face off against his former team, the Anglers, at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Pitzer, a 20-year-old righty from Clemson, made two relief appearances during Y-D’s undefeated week. Pitzer threw five combined innings, recording seven strikeouts and walking just two. He allowed an unearned run and lowered his season ERA to 1.23.
Y-D’s bullpen has been a major factor in its eight-game win streak to surge to the top of the standings in the East Division. Pitzer’s 0.88 WHIP and .044 BAA rank among the best in the Cape League. Pitzer and the Red Sox take on the Cotuit Kettleers on the road at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
