Harwich Mariners first baseman Michael Anderson and Yarmouth-Dennis right-handed pitcher Braden Osbolt have been named the Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week presented by Del Mar Vacation Rentals for the week of June 15-21, the league announced today.
Anderson, a 20-year-old first baseman from the University of Rhode Island, paced the Cape League with 11 hits in the first week of the season, including two separate games with four hits, a home run and at least four RBI. He recorded a hit in all five games that he appeared in, and he leads the league in SLG and OPS.
Anderson's offensive prowess has been a key factor in Harwich's early success this season. He’s anchored their lineup, and will now look to continue his hot streak against the Chatham Anglers at Whitehouse Field in Harwich tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Braden Osbolt, the 19-year-old righty from Kennesaw State University, shut down Chatham over six innings of work Sunday, June 17. Osbolt allowed just two base runners and struck out eight Anglers, good for a league leading 0.33 WHIP and .056 batting average against.
Osbolt walked just a single batter of the 19 he faced, and gave up just one hit as well. He set the tone for the Red Sox pitching staff, who take on the Brewster Whitecaps on the road at Stony Brook Field tonight at 5 p.m.
