Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox outfielder Ethan Petry and Harwich Mariners left-handed pitcher Bryson Bales have been named the Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week, presented by Del Mar Vacation Rentals, for the week of July 27-August 2, the league announced Monday.

Petry, a 20-year-old outfielder from the University of South Carolina, clubbed three home runs on his way to a .455/.571/1.273 slash line in his four games played, reaching base more than he was retired across these games. His 11 home runs are tied for the league lead, and makes him one of just 26 players in league history to hit 11+ home runs with a wooden bat.

On the season, Petry leads the Cape League in OBP, SLG, and OPS, playing a crucial role in Y-D’s run to clinch the best record in the regular season. He also won the annual Cape Cod Baseball League Home Run Contest in Falmouth on July 27. Petry was also named the Robert A. McNeese Most Outstanding Pro Prospect on August 4.

Bales, a 22-year-old lefty from Hendrix College, picked up a win in 5.1 innings of work against the Chatham Anglers on July 29. He struck out nine Chatham batters while allowing just two hits and one unearned run. Bales’ ERA for the summer sits at 2.95, and his 3.0 K/BB ratio is the highest of his collegiate career.

The Cape Cod Baseball League playoffs will begin on Tuesday, August 6. As the one seed Yarmouth-Dennis will play the Orleans Firebirds, and as the three seed, Harwich will play the Chatham Anglers.
