HYANNIS, Mass. — Brewster Whitecaps second baseman Dalton Wentz and Orleans Firebirds left-handed pitcher Cole Tryba have been named the Franklin Sports Player of the Week and Cape League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 26-Aug. 1, the league announced Sunday.

Wentz, a 20-year-old second baseman from Wake Forest, tallied 13 hits over six games played last week, posting a .542/.593/.708/1.301 slash line. This included two extra-base hits, a double and a home run, and was instrumental in Brewster clinching a playoff spot.

With seven RBIs and 17 total bases, he tied for the league lead in both categories. During the week, Wentz was on base more times than he recorded outs. The Whitecaps will play Game 1 of the opening round of the East Division playoffs on Tuesday.

Tryba, a 20-year-old lefty from UC Santa Barbara, pitched 8 1/3 relief innings across two games. He struck out five in each game, both against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. He allowed just one run and helped Orleans clinch a playoff spot and climb to the top of the East Division standings.

At 1.07, Tryba’s ERA is good for third best in the Cape League, and he’s allowed just three earned runs all summer. Orleans will also play Game 1 of the opening round of the East Division playoffs on Tuesday.
