Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week (July 20-26)

Chase Meggers (Bourne) and Patrick Galle (Wareham) have been named Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week

Bourne Braves catcher Chase Meggers and Wareham Gatemen right-handed pitcher Patrick Galle have been named the Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week, presented by Del Mar Vacation Rentals, for the week of July 20-26, the league announced Monday.

Meggers, a 21-year-old catcher from the University of Oregon, recorded a hit in every game he played in during the week for a total of seven hits, with four going for extra bases. On the week, Meggers slashed .467/.471/.800; he also drove in four runs. He has now recorded at least one hit in every game he’s played on the Cape since his arrival to the Braves in mid-July.

Since arriving, Meggers has been on fire at the plate; he’s hitting .375 with a .969 OPS. For an offense that had been scuffling, he’s been a shot in the arm for them. Meggers and the Braves will play the Orleans Firebirds on the road at Eldredge Park, Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Galle, a 20-year-old righty from Ole Miss, threw four scoreless innings in relief for Wareham across two appearances. On July 20, Galle picked up the win over Bourne after striking out three Braves in one inning of relief. In his next outing, he struck out five Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in three innings. He allowed just three hits in those games.

On the season, Galle has accumulated 19 strikeouts in just 14 2/3 innings pitched. The Gatemen will host the Hyannis Harbor Hawks at Spillane Field to begin the final week of the regular season, Monday at 6 p.m.
