Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week (July 19-25)

Chris Hacopian (Y-D) and Tyler Albanese (Cotuit) are named Cape League Players of the Week

HYANNIS, Mass. — Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox third baseman Chris Hacopian and Cotuit Kettleers right-handed pitcher Tyler Albanese have been named the Franklin Sports Player of the Week and Cape League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 19-25, the league announced Sunday.

Hacopian, a 20-year-old third baseman from Texas A&M, led the league with nine hits and was tied for the lead in total bases this week at 12. In a game against the Brewster Whitecaps with big playoff implications, he had three hits — including two doubles — and followed that up with a four-hit game against the Chatham Anglers the next day.

Overall, he slashed .500/.526/.667/1.193 on the week and accumulated an additional three RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Hacopian and the Y-D Red Sox are scheduled to host the Falmouth Commodores on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Albanese, a 19-year-old righty from San Jose State, threw four no-hit innings in relief for Cotuit to pick up a save against Falmouth. Over those four frames, he struck out six Commodores and only walked one.

On the season, Albanese’s 0.95 WHIP and .189 batting average are both good for sixth best in the Cape League among qualified pitchers. Albanese and the Kettleers travel to Hyannis to face off against the Harbor Hawks on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
