During each Friday night game of the 2024 season, Cape League teams will pay tribute to a local military member or first responder as part of the Massachusetts State Lottery 'Hero of the Game' campaign.

The Massachusetts State Lottery 'Hero of the Game' is a community-driven initiative, with each home team honoring one local military member or first responder by bringing them onto the field to be acknowledged during the middle of the fourth inning. The hero will receive a signed baseball from a player, a brief introduction to the fans and a quick photo to be featured on Cape League social media platforms, spotlighting the community's appreciation for their service.

"I am thrilled for the continuation of the Massachusetts State Lottery 'Hero of the Game' initiative during the 2024 season," Cape League President Andrew Lang said. "This initiative means so much to the league because it allows us to honor the local military and first responders who selflessly serve our community. It's one simple gesture to show our deep appreciation and gratitude for their bravery and dedication to serve."

For the 2024 season, each home team will also participate in 'Red Shirt Fridays' to honor those who serve the United States by wearing red jersey tops.

“The Mass. Lottery is proud to continue our partnership with the Cape Cod Baseball League and join them in honoring local residents who are dedicated to serving our communities,” Massachusetts State Lottery Director of Communications Christian Teja said.

The Cape League's partnership with the Massachusetts State Lottery allows this tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of all active military, veterans and first responders. Fans can nominate a hero by filling out a form at the press box of each of the league's 10 teams, making it a simple and turnkey process.
