
HYANNIS, Mass., July 26, 2026 - Bourne Braves shortstop Blake Schaaf and Brewster Whitecaps right-handed pitcher Zach Kmatz have been named the Franklin Sports Player of the Week and Baseball Lifestyle 101 Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week of July 19 - July 25, the Cape Cod Baseball League announced Sunday.
Schaaf, a slugger from Wake Forest University, had one of the best weeks in the league, hitting
.545/.565/1.201, with 12 hits, including three doubles. Schaaf scored nine runs and stole four bases, and recorded a hit in every game he played. He was critical in Bourne’s impressive 4-1 record this week, where they clinched a playoff berth.
The highlight of his impressive week came on July 24 vs. Harwich, where he had his third four-hit game of the season, accompanied by two RBI, in a 9-3 win over the Mariners.
Brewster’s Kmatz was unstoppable this week, picking up two wins in two appearances for the Whitecaps. He held his opponents to just a .125 batting average and posted a 0.00 ERA across the seven innings he pitched. He struck out eight opposing batters with just two walks.
His best outing came against Yarmouth-Dennis on July 25, where he pitched four innings and allowed just one unearned run along with two hits. His performance lead Brewster to their fourth straight win for the week.
