The Hyannis Harbor Hawks suffered a hard loss to the Bourne Braves on Friday night. After a walk-off mercy Thursday night, the bats saw little action. Michael Dattalo tallied the team’s only hit while the Hawks (13-9-1) struck out a total of 10 times as a team.
“[The Braves] played really, really good tonight,” head coach Mitch Karraker said. “They are a tough team to beat. Even when we are pulling our best game they are tough to beat.”
Blaine Wynk started on the mound for the Harbor Hawks, holding the Braves (10-11-2) scoreless through the first. A two-run home run given up in the bottom of the second put Bourne ahead early. Tristan Bissetta’s home run was the first of the season for the Braves at Doran Park.
Bourne tallied its third run of the ballgame starting with a double down the right field line. With the runner on second, the run made it in easily with a base hit driven through the right side.
Louisiana Tech’s Luke Nichols was called from the pen in the fourth for Hyannis. He hit the first batter he faced, and with a double down the line registered by the Braves, another run scored. The score was 5-0 Bourne at the end of the fourth.
In the sixth, a Brave doubled on a line drive to Kane Kepley. Adding a runner to first, Bissetta walked, putting runners on first and second. Dalton Bargo registered an out when he picked off the first base runner, but the runner at second advanced to third. The next pitch, Nichols balked, tallying another run for Bourne.
With the third pitching change for Hyannis, Dominick Carbone took over on the mound. In the seventh, he recorded back-to-back-to-back outs, without a single Brave touching first.
In his two innings, Carbone didn’t allow a run and only gave up one hit.
The Hawks were close in the eighth, with runners on first and second. Blake Cavill and Kepley both reached via walk but were left stranded and didn’t make it home.
While all parts of the game struggled for Hyannis on Friday night, the team always manages to pick it up and fight to the next. Resilience is something that the Hawks always bring.
“We’ve got to bring more intensity,” Karraker said. “[The Braves] play with some passion and energy, some fight. I think if we have that, maybe on the front end [of the game] it will be a little different.”
The Harbor Hawks will take on the Orleans Firebirds at Eldredge Park on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
