Dense fog brought an early end to Saturday night's matchup, as the Harbor Hawks dropped a 4-2 decision to the Chatham Anglers after six innings.

The loss moves Hyannis to 4-8 on the season.

Hyannis rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead before dense fog forced a 30-minute delay. As the fog worsened, play could not resume, and the umpires suspended the game.

Under league rules, because the seventh inning was not completed, the game reverted to the score at the end of the sixth inning, giving the Anglers a 4-2 win.

Harbor Hawks manager Mitch Karraker called the outcome "disappointing" and "frustrating," especially after his team rallied in the seventh inning. He said the team knew weather could become a factor and wished it had generated offense earlier in the game.

"It's disappointing, for sure. We had a great seventh inning, but I wish we had gotten something going a little sooner because we had a feeling the fog was going to roll in eventually," Karraker said. "It's frustrating, but I'm happy that our guys had success there late and hope they can carry that momentum going forward."

Ryan Bosch (Wake Forest) made his first start of the summer for the Harbor Hawks after serving exclusively as a reliever during his freshman season with the Demon Deacons.

The 6-foot-8 left-hander turned in an impressive outing, striking out five over four innings while allowing just one run on three hits. His performance left a strong impression on Karraker and could earn Bosch another opportunity in the starting rotation.

"[Bosch] was excellent for us. I’m proud of him knowing how hard he’s worked to get that opportunity. One run against, in my opinion, one of the best offenses in the Cape, is great. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do next time," Karraker said.

Chatham wasted little time taking the lead. Rob Rispoli worked a leadoff walk and stole second before Connor Shouse lined a single to center, bringing Rispoli home for a 1-0 Anglers lead.

Hyannis responded in the fourth. Charlie Bates (Stanford) ripped a one-out double down the right-field line, and two batters later, Caden Miller (Texas-San Antonio) launched the first pitch he saw over the right-field fence for a two-run homer. Miller’s third home run of the season gave the Harbor Hawks a 2-1 advantage and accounted for all of Hyannis’s scoring.

Hyannis’s lead lasted just one inning. Korbin Reynolds opened the bottom of the fifth by launching a solo home run to center field, tying the game at 2-2.

Chatham regained the lead in what proved to be the final completed inning. Bino Watters led off the sixth with a double to center before Connor Shouse lined an RBI single up the middle to score Watters from second and put the Anglers back in front, 3-2.

Shouse later advanced to third on Cole Johnson’s single, then scored on a wild pitch during Harlin Hovatar’s at-bat to extend Chatham’s lead to 4-2.

Despite rallying for three runs in the seventh inning, the Hawks came away empty-handed after dense fog brought the game to an early end. Per Cape Cod Baseball League rules, only the six completed innings count toward the official statistics and final result.

Hyannis will look to end its three-game losing streak Sunday night when it returns home to take on the Orleans Firebirds in the first of three straight games at McKeon Park.
