Six Whitecaps will represent Brewster in the 2025 Cape Cod League All-Star festivities

On Saturday, five Brewster Whitecaps were selected as Cape League All-Stars for the East Division. Holding the best record in the league, Brewster had no shortage of deserving candidates. Here are the five players chosen to represent the 'Caps in the 2025 All-Star Game — along with the two sluggers set to compete in the Home Run Contest at Red Wilson Field.

Gates open next Saturday at 11:45 a.m., kicking off a full slate of All-Star festivities highlighted by a league-wide autograph session. The Home Run Contest is set for 2:30 p.m., with first pitch of the All-Star Game scheduled for approximately 4:05 p.m.

ALL-STAR STARTERS

INF DALTON WENTZ (Wake Forest)

Wentz has held down second base since Opening Day, offering steady defense and a reliable bat in the heart of Brewster’s lineup. He’s slashing .279/.359/.397 with a .756 OPS, leading the team in total bases (27), RBIs (12) and extra-base hits (six).

His first home run of the summer — an opposite-field shot against Yarmouth — highlighted the consistency and pop he’s brought all season.

“It’s just a super cool feeling to be able to come up to the Cape in the first year and have the opportunity to do that,” Wentz said. “Go meet some new people and play in front of a good crowd. So I’m excited.”

ALL-STAR RESERVES

UTL Brendan Lawson (Florida)

Had Lawson arrived just a week or two earlier, he might have earned serious consideration for a starting spot. Even so, in just eight games, he’s made a strong enough impression to earn a reserve role — and rightfully so.

Lawson has put up numbers in under two weeks that many players take all season to reach, slashing a blistering .357/.486/.786 with a 1.272 OPS. He’s totaled 10 hits, including three home runs and three doubles. His Whitecaps debut featured a 3-for-4 night with a homer, and his most recent blast came Friday against Y-D in a pivotal showdown for the top spot in the Cape.

“I haven't been here for too long, so I’m honored that they got me in,” Lawson said. “That was one of my goals going in, but I wasn't sure if it was gonna work out given how much time I’ve had, but I'm just happy.”

OF Carson Kerce (Georgia Tech)

Like Wentz, Kerce has been a vital part of Brewster’s success all season. As the lineup shuffled through slumps and constant roster turnover, he remained one of the few steadying forces when the 'Caps needed it most.

The Georgia Tech product has been an on-base machine, posting a .419 OBP through 17 games. That patience at the plate has helped lift his OPS to .781, while he’s added three extra-base hits — a double, triple and home run — and driven in seven runs. Though listed as an outfielder for the All-Star Game, Kerce has also logged significant innings at shortstop, showcasing his versatility.

“It’s awesome. It’s a great opportunity,” Kerce said. “I’m excited to get out there with a lot of our guys and see what everyone does. I think it’s going to be fun.”

RP Lance Davis (TCU)

There’s a strong case to be made that Lance Davis has been one of the Cape’s top relievers this summer — undeniably Brewster’s best and most reliable arm out of the bullpen.

Through 12 1/3 innings, Davis owns a dominant 1.46 ERA with 18 strikeouts to just three walks. His strikeout total ranks 14th in the Cape despite pitching exclusively in relief. Much of his work has come in high-leverage, multi-inning situations. In his most recent outing, he shut down Wareham with four no-hit innings and eight strikeouts — an effort head coach Jamie Shevchik called the best outing he’s seen all season.

“I’m super excited. I think it’s something you always look forward to,” Davis said. “It’s one inning, so you know, go in and do my stuff.”

RP Kyle Kipp (Boston College)

Kipp entered the summer as one of three Boston College players on Brewster’s roster — and the only pitcher. Since Day 1, he’s been a steady, versatile presence on the mound, someone Shevchik has trusted in a range of roles, from closing out games to covering multiple innings in relief.

The right-hander has thrown 8 2/3 scoreless innings this season, striking out nine while walking just two. His All-Star selection makes him the second Brewster pitcher with a chance to appear in the game. Among his standout performances: a dominant three-out save against Orleans in which he allowed just one hit and struck out five without giving up an earned run.

“It was kind of a surprise,” Kipp said. “I heard that from Shev today, so I was obviously excited, and I’m ready to go through that game, hopefully, and show them I’m an All-Star.”

Home Run Contest

Carson Tinney (Texas) and Lawson will also compete in the Home Run Derby ahead of the All-Star Game — a testament to the raw power both bring to the plate. Lawson has launched three homers in just eight games with Brewster after hitting 10 this past season at Florida. Tinney, meanwhile, has only one homer this summer but blasted 17 at Notre Dame, showcasing the kind of power the Cape will expect to see in a derby-style setting.

Brewster is the only team with two players participating.
