Believe it or not, the collegiate baseball season has reached its midpoint. Teams and players alike are fighting through the long campaign, trying not just to tread water but to continue improving, as the ultimate goal still lies far in the distance.
These three Whitecaps showcased examples of continued improvement with impressive performances over the last weekend, boosting their already sound seasons.
Adam Magpoc, San Diego State, UTL
It was only a matter of time before the Brewster Whitecaps 2025 team MVP and San Diego State junior Adam Magpoc – who’s listed as an infielder on the team’s website but has spent most of his season in left field – found his way onto a Whitecaps top performers of the week list.
The speedy 5-foot-9 Boston College transfer entered the Aztecs weekend series against Air Force rocking a .269 batting average and 11 stolen bases, and exited the three games with that number nearing .300 at .296, while tacking on another steal.
Magpoc’s biggest game of the bunch came on Friday night, recording four hits, including a double, in five at-bats, along with an RBI and a run scored, helping SDSU win 9-2.
If there was a game that Magpoc struggled in, it was game two. He recorded just a walk and a run in three plate appearances, but he more than made up for it in game three. He went 2-for-3 with another double in the series finale, walking two times as well and scoring two runs while driving in three.
When it was all said and done, Magpoc helped SDSU sweep the Falcons by posting a .692 OBP for the weekend, while driving in and scoring four runs.
Rohan Lettow, San Diego State, RHP
Magpoc wasn’t the only soon-to-be-Whitecap Aztec to make a major impact this week, as his teammate, junior right-handed starter Rohan Lettow, who’s becoming a regular on these lists, absolutely shoved in SDSU’s 9-2 Friday night win.
Similar to two weeks prior, when he was pitching against San Jose State – a performance that landed him on the week six top performers list – Lettow was looking for a bounce-back performance.
His March 27 start against Grand Canyon in his home state of Arizona was by far the worst outing of his season, going only 3.2 innings, allowing 11 hits, seven earned runs, four home runs and only striking out one batter.
He completely flipped the script against Air Force.
Lettow equaled his strikeout total from the week prior immediately, and worked out of a first-inning jam that saw two unearned runs cross the plate by registering his second punchout. He went on to strike out eight more Falcons over five more innings of work, allowing just two hits on the night and working around four walks to keep a zero in the earned run column and allow his offense to win him the game.
The performance brought his season ERA down from 4.38 to 3.77, which is much more representative of what the future Whitecap has shown throughout the spring.
Landon Mack, Tennessee, RHP
Tennessee sophomore RHP Landon Mack is another arm who’s making another appearance as a Whitecaps top performer.
Mack, who’s operated as the Vols Saturday starter after transferring in from Rutgers, where he earned Big 10 All-Freshman Team honors a season ago, got his chance to prove himself in a Friday night role against LSU this past week, and took advantage.
The 6-foot-1 New Jersey native carved the Tigers up, striking out 10 over seven innings, while allowing just three hits, a walk and a solo shot. His dominance only grew as the game went on, sending the last 14 batters he faced back to the bench, but at 94 pitches and a season-high seven innings completed, his night was over without a chance to pitch in the eighth.
Unfortunately for Mack and Tennessee, the bullpen couldn’t maintain its three-run lead and eventually lost the game 7-5.
Still, Mack had proven himself in the role and has earned another Friday nod from head coach Josh Elander, this time on the road against Mississippi State. If the future Whitecap keeps it up, he could enter the summer with huge expectations.
