After a neck-and-neck contest against Yarmouth-Dennis, the Cape League’s top team, Wareham heads on the road for a matchup it should’ve played two nights ago. Tuesday’s league-wide rainout postponed the Gatemen’s first trip to Veterans Field of the summer and their third game against the Anglers after splitting close home matchups.
Chatham returns home after a 9-2 defeat to Bourne and a two-game losing streak. While the Gatemen fell to the Red Sox at Spillane Field, they have won two of their last four games. Wareham can grab a pivotal road victory after two incredibly competitive matchups at home.
Starting Pitchers: Lee vs. Gleason
Wareham: The Gatemen’s strong string of starting pitching continued against the Red Sox with Colton Sampson’s (Transfer Portal) 4.1 innings of two-run ball. Can Peyton Lee’s (Arkansas) fourth start continue the trend? He only allowed one hit and kept the game scoreless for five innings at Orleans, but now faces the third-best offense in the Cape League. The Anglers only scored two runs last time at Spillane Field and now face one of the Gatemen’s rising starters.
Chatham: After making his first relief appearance of 2026, Jack Gleason (Mississippi State) returns to his starter role on Friday. He made his last start against the Gatemen, only allowing Nate Novitske (Arizona) to reach base, but now faces a lineup that has produced 11 runs over their last three games. Gleason forced Wareham into light contact last time out: can the Gatemen continue to manufacture runs with steals and sacrifices?
Players To Watch
Gatemen: Hitting against the Red Sox, the CCBL’s lowest team-ERA (2.35), is no easy task. Not only did Levi Clark (Tennessee) tally a base knock, he reached in his two other plate appearances with free passes. Clark became Wareham’s hits leader (14) and ranks second in walks (9) and his 2026 CCBL season is beginning to look very similar to his prior summer where he was a staple in the league’s best offense.
Anglers: Ty Peeples’ (Georgia) start to the summer was rocky, but he hit a groove on Wednesday with a team-high two hits. He has adjusted to the wood bats and Cape League pitching after just five games, but now faces a Gatemen pitching staff that has only allowed nine runs over their last three games.
First pitch from Chatham’s Veterans Field is set for 7:00. Fans can attend for free, or tune in on Cape League TV.
