While the constant crack of wooden bats could be heard under the lights at Veterans Field, the game remained scoreless throughout the first four innings. Both defenses gave up no errors in these innings and pitching on both sides was solid. Despite this, Y-D came out on top Sunday night in Chatham with a final score of 2-1.

UCLA’s Phoenix Call slugged an RBI single in the fifth inning to give Y-D a one-run lead over the Chatham Anglers. Call’s line drive right up the middle sent Stanford’s Charlie Saum home scoring the game's first run. Saum also scored the game's second run, stealing home on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.

For the Anglers, Will Gasparino knocked one out of the park to give Chatham their first run in the eighth inning. Alex Lodise smacked a double for the Anglers right after, putting some late pressure on Y-D.

Other big hits for Y-D tonight came from Easton Carmichael, a sophomore from the University of Oklahoma. He notched a double in the fourth inning and a single in the sixth. UCLA’s Cameron Kim also hit one over second base for a single in the ninth.

Braden Osbolt, the right-handed sophomore from Kennesaw State, pitched a strong game on the mound for Y-D. He threw for six innings and struck out eight batters. Bethune-Cookman’s Pablo Torres and Stanford’s Trevor Moore carried the energy into the later innings and closed out the game, combining for five strikeouts.

To add to Y-D’s relentless defense, Call made an impressive diving play at second base and got the runner out at third to end the seventh inning. Michigan’s Jonathan Kim had some crucial catches in left field, one on the warning track. Cade McGee of Texas Tech also played a clean game at third base, making a skillful catch in foul territory and completing a long throw to first for the out.

With Sunday night’s win, the Y-D Red Sox improved to 2-0 on the season. They will face the Harwich Mariners on Monday evening at home.
