It didn’t count towards the standings, but the 2025 Harwich Mariners took the field for the first time in a preseason scrimmage against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox at Red Wilson Field on Thursday. The Red Sox hit three home runs off the Mariner’s pitching leading to the 10-5 victory.

Harwich used 10 batters and eight pitchers to give guys the chance for live game action before the season opener on Saturday.

“ It's good to get live pitching and game-like atmosphere and the whole bit,” field manager Steve Englert said. “So that's why we do these things.”

Seton Hall’s Ryan Reich started the game for Harwich. The righty tossed two scoreless innings and struck out three batters.

“I had all three pitches working really well today, which was good because I haven’t thrown live in about a month,” the rising senior said. “But I was really thankful just to get an opportunity today to show my stuff.”

Kyle Wolff led the sixth inning off with a home run. Catcher Matt Conte tied the game on a groundout that brought in Niko Brini. Two batters right fielder Harrison Feinberg hit a double to bring in third baseman Jordan Jaffe to take the lead 4-3.

Jaffe reached base twice and drove a run in the eighth.

Lefty Michael Gray also tossed two innings for Harwich, giving up a solo home run and recording two strikeouts.

With their first live innings in the books, the Mariners are set to hit the ground running on opening night.

“ A lot of guys haven't played in a while,” Englert said. “You bump the rust off and try to get ready to go on Saturday.”

Harwich has an off-day on Friday before beginning the season Saturday against Bourne. First pitch is 5:30 p.m. at Whitehouse Field.
