20 games. 175 innings. Thousands of pitches. Cotuit has played a lot of baseball so far, but has only hit the halfway point of the season. There is a lot left in the 2026 season, including the All-Star game, final stretch and the playoffs. But, where do the Kettleers stack up now?
The Win and Loss Columns
Cotuit currently sits in fourth place in the West Division with 14 points. While the Kettleers were within three points of the division lead just a week ago, a six-game losing streak from June 29 to July 8 saw Cotuit fall to seven points back of the division lead. However, they are still four points up on the Wareham Gatemen for the fourth place spot in the division and the final playoff spot.
Interestingly, the Kettleers’ -21 run differential is second best in the division. Eight of Cotuit’s 12 losses were by three runs or less, meaning they have really been in contention for almost every game. These data points suggest Cotuit is losing a lot of games in the fine margins and has the potential to improve to the median outcome by winning some of those close games in the future.

The Numbers
The Kettleers sit around league average in hitting stats such as hits (sixth), RBIs (sixth) and walks (fourth). But, dive deeper and there is an obvious discrepancy that is matchup-based.
Against left-handed pitchers, Cotuit leads the league in RBIs and extra-base hits while being second in hits overall. But against righties, they have a league-worst .211 batting average and are ninth in RBIs and hits. If the Kettleers can improve the stats against right-handed arms in the back half without sacrificing their dominance against southpaws, the offense will be much better off.
On the mound, Cotuit below average in earned run average and batting average allowed while giving up the most home runs in the league. A big reason as to why Cotuit is allowing so many runs is that the Kettleers have walked 106 batters while hitting 29, both the second most in the league. Cotuit will have to start mitigating these factors if they wish to keep themselves in more games.
Looking Ahead
The Kettleers kick off the second half of the season Thursday when they host the Harwich Mariners in a make-up of a rainout from July 7. After that, they play a stretch of seven games in eight days before the All-Star break on July 18 and 19. Aside from playing Brewster twice, each opponent in that stretch is unique, giving Cotuit the opportunity to pick up victories against over half of the league. While the team has not gone unbeaten for more than three games at a time, a run of such quality would be an immense help in the fight for playoff seeding.
After the break, just 12 games remain in the regular season with each of the last five coming against divisional opponents. Those last five games, especially the three-game road stretch from July 29 to August 1, may decide how the postseason looks for the Kettleers. But for now, Coach Rob Cooper wants his team to focus on one game at a time.
“All I ask from the players is that we continue to work and get better,” Cooper said. “The wins will come to us if we keep playing baseball the right way and try to go 1-0 each day.”
