5:00 p.m. ET
Riding a four-game win streak, the Bourne Braves will head to Red Wilson field to take on Y-D Red Sox in a matchup between the leaders of the East and West divisions. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. ET. The Braves are coming off a 3-1 tenth inning victory over Orleans and the Red Sox look to extend their winning streak after a shutout of Brewster on Thursday.
Probables
Bourne - RHP Noah Scott (Oregon State): 9.0 IP, 11.00 ERA
Y-D - RHP Easton Teel (Oral Roberts): 9.2 IP, 2.79 ERA
Last Time Out - Bourne
After a strong performance from both pitching staffs, the Braves and Orleans Firebirds needed the tenth inning to decide Thursday’s contest. Going into the final frame tied 1-1, Bourne finally found some rhythm on offense. Blake Schaaf (Wake Forest) delivered an RBI single to give the Braves a lead, and Rustan Rigdon (Vanderbilt) added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the tenth, Nick Robert (Miami) worked out of early trouble to close out the game and earn his first save of the season.
Last Time Out - Y-D
The Red Sox have been dominant through the first half of the season, and that didn’t stop in Thursday’s shutout victory over Brewster. The Y-D pitching staff used five pitchers over the nine-inning game, striking out 14 Whitecaps batters and allowing only six hits. On offense, Dante Vachini (Cal Poly) was the star. Vachini opened the game’s scoring with a two-run home run in the third, and added an RBI double in the fifth. The Braves would score two more runs in the fifth and end up with a 5-0 victory.
Previous Matchup
The Red Sox have won both matchups against the Braves so far this season. In each game, the Braves held an early lead before Y-D came back to narrowly escape with a win.
Player to Watch - Bourne
With the departure of many Braves players over the last week to prepare for the MLB Draft, there will be opportunities for others to step up. Cooper Williams (Troy) could do just that. The Bourne utilityman has been quietly having a solid season at the plate, hitting .273. Williams hasn’t recorded an extra base hit yet and only has one walk though, but could see a breakout with more consistent playing time.
Player to Watch - Y-D
Since Lucas Franco (TCU) got to Y-D, he’s taken the league by storm. The Red Sox infielder has appeared in nine games so far, hitting .478 with a 1.204 OPS. Though he doesn’t have enough at-bats to count as a qualified hitter, these stats would be the league-lead in their respective categories.
