The Bourne Brave took their second loss of the season on Saturday with a 4-2 defeat against Y-D. Today, the Bravos will look to get back in the win column in a matchup with the Brewster Whitecaps at Doran Park. The Whitecaps are hoping to extend their win streak to two games after handling Orleans on Saturday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET

Probables

Bourne: LHP Brendon Bennett (Clemson): 3.0 IP, 3.00 ERA

Brewster: LHP Payton Manca (Florida State): 4.1 IP, 2.08 ERA

Last Time Out - Bourne

In a game that took two rain delays to finish, the Braves weren’t able to secure a victory. Bourne played a great game for eight innings, but the fifth frame cost them. After Field Manager Scott Landers displayed his trust in starting LHP Rhys Bowie (Wake Forest), the southpaw surrendered a four-run inning which would end up being Y-D’s only offense on the day. The Braves had a few opportunities to score late in the game, but couldn’t capitalize.

Last Time Out - Brewster

The Whitecaps recovered from an early deficit to secure their fourth victory of the year against Orleans. After the Firebirds put two runs up in the first inning, Brewster responded in the fourth. The Whitecaps rallied for four runs in the inning, to give them a 4-2 advantage. Orleans would score a run in the sixth to cut the lead to one run, but Brewster held them off in the late innings for a 4-3 victory.

Player to Watch - Bourne

C Andrew Costello continued his blazing start to the season on Saturday night, getting the Bourne offense going with a double in the fourth inning. The recent South Carolina transfer now has hits in six of Bravos’ first seven games, and has only struck out one time this summer. Costello leads the Braves in hits (12), doubles (3), batting average (.462), and OPS (1.209).

Player to Watch - Brewster

Jacob Lee (VCU) is a bright spot for what has been a stagnant Brewster offense to start the year. The Whitecaps catcher has displayed significant power at the plate, tied for the lead in the Cape League in home runs (3). Lee’s .304 batting average and 1.016 OPS are by far the best for Brewster this season.
