The Bourne Braves will take to the road for the first time this season, matching up against the Cotuit Kettleers at Lowell Park. The Bravos suffered their first loss of the season, a 6-1 defeat to Harwich, on Sunday night. The Kettleers picked up their second win of the season yesterday with an 8-2 victory over Chatham.

Probables

Bourne: Will Whelan (Minnesota)

Cotuit: Grady Bivens (Eckerd)

Last Time Out - Bourne

After a stellar open to the season, the Braves were unable to find rhythm in game two. Harwich was the first on the scoreboard and had built up a 4-0 lead after the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the frame, Bourne finally got on the board. Matt Bolton (Binghamton) launched a triple to the fence in center field for the Bravos’ first extra base hit of the night. A batter later, Bolton would cross the plate on a wild pitch to make it a 4-1 ballgame.

After Harwich added two more runs in the top of the sixth, the Braves went into rally mode. With the bases loaded in the eighth, Trent Caraway (LSU) came through with a two-run single to left field to cut the deficit to 6-3. Bourne would get the tying run to the plate, but were unable to score for the rest of the game.

Last Time Out - Cotuit

Cotuit started the scoring early and never looked back in their 8-2 win over Chatham on Sunday. The Kettleers opened the game in the first inning, with Tague Davis (Louisville) hitting a two-run shot over the right center field fence. Cotuit would add runs in the second and fifth innings, before a three-run sixth inning would all but seal the Kettleers' second straight win to open the year.

Player to Watch - Bourne

Tonight’s Braves starting pitcher, Will Whelan, was one of Bourne’s top arms a season ago. In nine appearances out of the bullpen last summer, Whelan threw 20.2 innings with a 1.31 ERA. Today, he makes his first start in a Braves uniform.

Player to Watch - Cotuit

Tague Davis helped lead the Kettleers to their second straight win to open the season. On the opening pitch he saw in his first at bat, Davis sent a fly ball over the right center fence for a two-run home run. He would finish the game with two hits, two RBI, and a run scored. In a small sample size to open the year, Davis is hitting .375 with a 1.194 OPS.
