FALMOUTH, Mass.- The Falmouth Commodores celebrated the achievements and contributions of four exceptional young students in the community by awarding them prestigious scholarships and service awards. The ceremony was held before the Commodores' game against the Brewster Whitecaps at Guv Fuller Field, honoring Avery Johnsen, Declan Norris, Lucas Kapulka and Thomas Ghossen for their dedication and service to the team and community.
Avery Johnsen, a Falmouth High School graduate, received the Chuck Sturtevant Outstanding Service Award. This award honors the legacy of Chuck Sturtevant, recognizing his many years of commitment to the Falmouth Commodores and the Cape Cod Baseball League. Johnsen and her family have hosted 22 Commodores players between 2012 and 2022, and she served as a bat girl for three seasons. In the fall, she will attend Appalachian State University to play Division 1 Field Hockey and pursue a career in dentistry.
The George Creighton Scholarship, awarded annually to honor the memory of George Creighton, a long-time volunteer and past president of the Falmouth Commodores, was presented to three graduates of Falmouth High School: Declan Norris, Lucas Kapulka and Thomas Ghossen.
Declan Norris, a batboy for the Commodores from 2016 through 2019 and an All-Star batboy in 2018, will study marketing at Endicott College this fall while playing on the golf team.
“I'm grateful for this scholarship as I continue my education and sports career,” said Norris. “It’s really cool to see these new generations of bat boys and girls and look back on my time.”
Lucas Kapulka, who also served as a batboy and whose family hosted Commodores players in 2019, will attend Roger Williams University to study business administration. Kapula was nothing short of excited.
"It feels so good,” Kapulka said. I enjoyed my time as a batboy a lot, and it's great to be recognized for all my hard work."
Thomas Ghossen, another former batboy, will pursue a career in veterinary medicine at the University of Tampa this fall.
The award and scholarships highlight the deep bond between the Falmouth Commodores and their community, highlighting the importance of volunteerism, academic achievement, and dedication to sports.
The Commodores and the community collectively celebrated these young individuals' hard work and commitment, inspiring future generations to contribute and excel both on and off the field.
