Commodores gear up for the season by way of elementary school field days

For many, Memorial Day Weekend is the official start of summer, others prefer to wait for the summer solstice to declare the start of the new season. But in Falmouth, there are two ways to signify the beginning, opening day for the Commodores, and field day for the elementary students of Morse Pond School and North Falmouth.

For our players, today was an excellent opportunity to not only get out and meet their young fans but also help to foster relationships that kids will remember for a lifetime. A student named Jordan at Morse Pond says today helped “build a friendship” with Falmouth’s Mark Quatrani and Kent Schmidt. After a steady couple days of poor weather, the skies cleared and removed every cloud in sight, giving our players and interns a chance to play kickball, cornhole, and capture the flag among many other activities.

However, as beneficial as it was for the kids, it seems several ‘Dores themselves had gotten a lot out of their first bit of community outreach, Schmidt raved about the sense of community through his first several days in town, saying, “It’s a very welcoming community, definitely a change of scenery but it’s been awesome so far.” As for Quatrani, the vibes are just as well, saying, “It means a lot, and I just want to take advantage of it and be able to come help make a name for the Commodores.

Things like this are what separate the Cape Cod Baseball League from other leagues, NCAA ball, or even the pros. Even though they are here for the shortest stint of all those just mentioned, their impact on communities is limitless, bringing together small towns throughout America’s hidden gem to show what this country is all about: friendship, community, and of course, baseball.

The Commodores will participate in two more field days, at both Mullen Hall and Teaticket elementary schools, among many other events throughout the summer.
