FALMOUTH, Mass. — Friday night was a busy one at the Guv, as Carole Kenney was honored as the "Hero of the Game" during the Falmouth Commodores' "Red Shirt Friday" event. The event, part of the Cape Cod Baseball League's Massachusetts State Lottery initiative, pays tribute to local military members, first responders and community figures. Red Shirt Friday was also accompanied by the Commodores' annual Military Appreciation Night.
During Military Appreciation Night, the Commodores proudly recognized and honored our local military and veteran groups for their service and dedication. The evening was a tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country. Adding to the ceremony's significance, the Falmouth Police Department Honor Guard was in attendance to present the colors before the national anthem, creating a moment of unity and respect that set the tone for the game and Hero of the Game ceremony.
The Commodores’ hero, Carole Kenney, a dedicated Falmouth resident, has worked day and night to support veterans and their families for over two decades. From leading the Joe Q Veteran Coffee Break Inc. to opening the Falmouth Community Veterans Center, her efforts have made a significant impact. She's also been a key figure in the Falmouth Military Support Group, sending over 5,500 packages to troops and providing scholarships for Cape Cod service members.
Carole's passion for service runs deep, with a long family history in military service. Her dedication has earned her numerous awards, including the State of Massachusetts Unsung Heroine Award and the New England Patriots Difference Makers Award.
The Cape Cod Baseball League's Hero of the Game campaign honors local heroes by bringing them onto the field during the middle of the fourth inning. Each honoree receives a signed baseball, a brief introduction to the fans and a photo feature on the league's social media platforms.
The Falmouth Commodores have one more Red Shirt Friday this summer, honoring the Hero of the Game again on August 2.
